What is his niche as a writer that got him so popular? It seems all he does is write hit pieces On athlete n act like a depressed emo kid who hates everyone
He covers good topics but he is nowhere near a all time great sports writer

Is he related to Rhea Perlman?

He’s a damn good writer and has produced some entertaining books that are great reads.
Showtime: what better book is there that covers the ‘80’s Lakers?
Boys Will Be Boys: what better book is there that covers the ‘90’s Cowboys?
Football For a Buck: definitely the best book out about the USFL.
The Bad Guys Won: nice read on the ‘86 Mets. Not sure if it’s the best since there are so many out.
Sweetness: Great book about Walter Payton. The only thing that wore on me was how arrogant Walter was and that he seemed like a POS that was protected.
All that said, Pearlman is a great writer and covers popular topics as well as any current author. Where’s the hit piece? Seems like the stories about the drugs and womanizing surrounding the Lakers, Cowboys, and Mets are all spot on, and certainly not anything Pearlman broke.

He wrote a scathing hit piece on John Rocker for Sports Illustrated in 1999 or thereabouts that pushed into mainstream discussion. He seems to get off on hit pieces.

I’m sure there was a line to write about rocker

Outside of Trump living in his head rent-free and his constant hit posts on Trump, a lot of his books come off as exceptionally researched and comprehensive. Would comprise a nice sports book library.
