because it is IMPOSSIBLE to play competitive football with out helmets touching each other.

it's very possible to avoid lowering your helmet and spearing other players' in the head

that is NOT how people are taught to tackle

ask the DT from rutgers the risks of taking your eyes off the offensive player and lowering your head and lunging forward

the helmets have become weapons

the final solution is going to be going back to helmets similar to the ole leather straps of antiquity

Why does the defensive player have to give up?

he doesn't

he has to keep his head up and see what he's tackling

the only person this doesn't apply to is the QB

defensive players can't lower the shoulder?

do you really think that harrison is completely retarded as a defensive player?

I have never known a high school coach to teach a defensive player to spear with the helmet. Great way to cause a head or neck injury and give the school a law suit to deal with.

My first ever game as a freshman QB, a ROLB speared me in the abdomen on a blitz and bruised my ribs. He sat for the rest of the game... The culture at least in Northern Alabama football severely frowns upon spearing and reckless self-endangerment. It may be different in bigger high school football markets like Birmingham.

Do I think that a pro linebacker knows to keep his head up and hit in the chest (the place that all coaches teach you to hit, because that is where the ball is and the best place to cause a fumble) instead of a spear to the head? Yes.

Players need to start being ejected and suspended for this shite.

It's going to get to a point where this unprecedented violence really starta to affect the leagues popularity. Maybe no time soon, but eventually it will.

Both helmet to helmet hits.

He'll probably be fined heftily since he did it twice in one game.

Yes but amazing that neither drew a flag. I love this tough guy talk by everyone but both of these were nothing but cheap shots.

The shot on Cribbs came late, he was already stopped and going down. Led straight with his helmet.

The shot on Massaqua came after the ball was past him. A complete cheap shot.

Mangini should have head hunted this mfricker the rest of the game.

Harrison's job wasn't to tackle in either situation Cribbs was already wrapped up and the other guy was trying to catch the ball in both situations you HIT them and separate them from the ball not form tackle

Yes and when both players lower themselves there is a great chance helmets will hit. Defensive players do what they have to do to get the guy to drop the ball.

Hundred of thousands of helmet to helmet hits happen every week they always have and they ALWAYS WILL. We will have this talk every single week because no matter what THEY WILL HAPPEN next week and the week after that. Cris Carter, Rodney Harrison and Mike Golic all talked about it.

look at the hit on desean jackson. thats a good hit that was led with the shoulder. to me this guy is a dirty player. both of those people probably have serious concusssions. many plaeys each year have to retire cause they cant afford to get another concussion. and if you think its taking away from the violence of the game. there isnt supposed to be much violence. yes there will be big hits but its not an mma fight. the goal is to score touchdowns not see how many players from the other team you can knock out of the game

Harrison should be suspended. He didn't even draw a flag for the first hit which was obvious helmet to helmet on purpose. The second one was worse but they only called it because it was a receiver.

As stated before, someone is going to get killed out there. Guy is head hunting on purpose and was strutting around like a peacock after both hits knowing he had just hit lead with his head.

I hope he tears an achilles.

The first hit was fine. Now the second hit, I can definately see a fine with that.

Why the hell would Harrison try to give Cribbs a cheap shot? They were college teammates. You could see he signaled for the Steeler trainers right after he saw Cribbs down. Helmet to helmet hits happen every game for crying out loud. If you want a flag and fine on every acciental helmet to helmet, then go play soccer.

LINK

Pause that at 11 seconds. You can clearly tell Harrison was throwing his shoulder into Cribbs and his head is down, so it's not like he was trying to hit him straight in the helmet. It wasn't even helmet to helmet.

Actually, I just watched it again and I can't really tell. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he's a Steeler

Yes, Mr. Tough Guy. Please, give us the details of all of the brain trauma that you've recovered from.

It's knuckledraggers like you who are the problem, not the rule.

It happens. Always has and always will. Obviously it looks worse cause Heap didn't come close to catching it but how is Meriweather supposed to know? If Heap is able to make a catch there that is a spectacular play with spectacular timing by Meriweather

Because he's looking right at him? Sees the ball sail over his hand and THEN ducks his head and hits Heap in the face?

i just watched it again

jesus, both hits were as dirty as they get. harrison intentionally lowered his head at the last second on the cribbs hit and obviously the massaquoi hit was cheap

i pray he gets a HUGE fine and hopefully suspended.
