It’s amazing how many bad broadcasters there are at the national level. Play by play is hard, and you shouldn’t just take a studio host and let him do play by play.
Then again, some people who make their living doing nothing but play by play are bad. There are too many bad ones to name and there are more bad ones than good ones.

I wish I could upvote more than once. I watched the end of the Penn State-Purdue game on mute because I knew the fourth quarter would be nothing but Gus Johnson having fake orgasms.

Not really. Joe Tessitore is essentially ESPN/ABC's No. 3 college football guy, and he's terrible. Gus Johnson is FOX's No. 1, and he's terrible. ABC used to do 3-4 games as far back as the '70s, and I didn't even mention the No. 7 or 8 guys on ESPN's roster. Tom Hart is in a prime spot as the lead SEC Network guy, and he's awful.
Chris Fowler is ESPN/ABC's No. 1, and while he's gotten better, he's not worthy of that spot. Fowler was at his best as host of GameDay.
And I didn't even cover the NFL guys. The networks that carry football on Sundays have had 5-7 guys each week for years, going back to the '60s. CBS has a couple of good ones, and then the bottom of their lineup is dreck. FOX has two or three good ones, and the rest are dreck. So it's not just about the fact there are more games.
