Those are based on the numbers from the LA State Auditor's office. That is the real picture of your athletic program. Your athletic foundation is not part of the athletic department.

Do you know how to read financial reports? Look at page 13 of the pdf file I linked earlier.

As opposed to blind, deaf and dumb haters from schools with an endowment a fraction of LSU's?

Sit down. The big boys are talking here.

A question for techsters. Have you ever had a true sold-out, standing room only, packed house in the history of your stadium, "The Joe" I think you call it?

Recall that tech, ULL, and ULM built up their stadiums to meet NCAA minimums for Div 1 programs several years ago. I know ULL packed the house a few times, e.g., vs. Texas A&M, McNeese, and Southern. But I don't think tech or ULM has ever had a true sellout.

If so, when and against who?

Since Southern Miss was mentioned, let me say this.

If Brett Favre ever puts his mark on the program (ie Coach, recruiting, AD, etc) the Golden Eagles football team will improve tenfold and they could jump into a serious conference.

Unfortunately not. We've played all our *big* games in Shreveport and have come close, but haven't sold out Independence Stadium yet. A lot of those games would easily have sold out Joe Aillet, but we just used to play at Indy instead... I thought we'd do it against Moo State a couple years ago, but that frickin' hurricane hit and messed that up. We aren't doing the play-half-our-home-games-in-Shreveport mess anymore, so perhaps now we'll do it. I hope for a nice crowd against Southern Miss this year. We've already sold more tickets for the season opener than we would have seats for at our home stadium, but again... it's being played in Shreveport. Go figure.

The IQ of the average incoming freshman is the highest in the state now. And it shows no sign of stopping. I think sports-related dominance isn't far behind that. I'm almost confident enough to throw a "Book It" in there.

Signed,

Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, Baylor, etc.

Oh yeah, La Tech will never be on the same academic level as Tulane and they are in a better town. Ruston pretty much sucks for a college kid.

I think he meant among public universities. Not fair to include the private schools as even Loyola dominates

ULL is in even worse shape than Latech.

A few bits of info:

Total football ticket sales (entire season) = $606K

Direct Institutional Support (taxpayer subsidy) = $6.2 million

Total ticket sales as a percent of total revenues = <10%

Note they treat the taxpayer subsidy as "revenue".

Schools like this would rather put money into athletics to stay Div 1, rather than use it for academics and let their athletics fall to the appropriate level based on resources, market, and fan interest.

ul recently started the RCAF and it's making a lot of money for the athletic programs. the academics are fine and we're in a great position monetarily because we've budgeted so well for so long.

Henderson is right. If LSU didn't have TAF, they'd be in the hole too, just like pretty much everyone would be. LSU has TAF, ULL has RCAF, and LaTech has LTAC. That's where the real money is, and it's not depriving the school of academic money... That's just how D1 collegiate athletics work.

Again, you're mixing up the athletic foundations with the athletic department performance.

And again, these are the audit reports from the LA State Auditor. This is how your school's athletic department performed financially.

FWIW, here's LSU's report. TAF (reported separately) is on page 12, Athletic department is on page 15.

Actually the LTAF and ULLAF are mentioned in their respective reports. Revenues raised for the audit period are below, along with that of the TAF.

TAF = $12.5M

LTAF = $1.4M

ULLAF = $811K

Again, this is separate from the published revenue/expense reports for the school athletic departments.

This school has the potential to surpass LSU over the next 20 years if present trends continue. There are a lot of cutting edge technology programs being developed there and the academics is improving every year. I could see it happen. It is definitely number two with a bullet right now.

Doesn't West Monroe usually surpass Tech on average home game attendance?

I think WM gets about 5,000 which is awesome for a high school.

Not Tech but they draw at least twice what ULM draws.
