people do not have to watch basketball to know who lebron james is. The same way they didnt when Michael Jordan was playing.

It is the same way with Ronaldo across most of the world.

Ronaldo is a household name across the majority of the world.

Lebron is a household name across the minority of the world.

Again, you are part of the minority in the world.

A few guys from Louisiana don't make up a good reflection of "the world".

I don't think it is the same. basketball is played more frequently, and televised more frequently.

the disinterest in soccer is on the same level as the popularity. Meaning if you don't care about it, you really don't care about it.

It's not like you flip on Sportscenter on a random night and see Rondaldo kicking a goal. "Oh hey look its that rondaldo guy!!!"

that just doesnt happen.

I was strictly talking "brand" in that post. Which has more to do with endorsements than popularity. Popularity I've already said 100 times that Ronaldo is #1.

Federer makes more than Lebron. If you want money = brand, then its Tiger. Phil makes more than Lebron as well on endorsements. If thats your metric, then the salary numbers are out there. The thread title says "biggest superstar athlete in the World" which could mean popular, endorsements, a Sumo...

This will be fun.

That is simply idiotic. Give me the worldwide TV ratings of The Finals, and then the ratings of the current EURO tournament.

the disinterest in soccer is on the same level as the popularity. Meaning if you don't care about it, you really don't care about it.

But, WORLDWIDE, the popularity exceeds the disinterest by a ton.

SportsCenter is an American show. Soccer is the #4 or #5 most popular sport overall in the US.

AGAIN, YOU ARE NOT THE WORLD.

What in the

I don't even

The EPL alone >>>>>>>>>>> NBA

We aren't including La Liga, Serie A, or Bundesliga.

Look at the month of May. Both the UCL final and the championships of the major European leagues were decided in that one month alone. That's more championships with higher ratings than the NBA has all year. Euro is going on right now.

and the support of international competition is not even in the same universe. You really have no idea what you are talking about.

That is patently absurd.

I really do not give a frick if you or half of the US can recognize Cristiano Ronaldo.

If you were to hypothetically give every single person a piece of paper with Lebron's and Ronaldo's face on it and ask what their names are, then I can guarantee you that more can say Ronaldo than Lebron.

Let me put this simply and bluntly. Ronaldo is by far the most popular athlete in the most popular sport. Ronaldo is known among most sports fans among the world. Ronaldo is popular with the women because of his looks, modeling career, and multiple famous celebrities he has dated. Ronaldo has a huge demographic that Lebron does not have. Most women do not really care much or know much about Lebron. Women care about Ronaldo. He is a Brad Pitt to women and Lebron James to men. I really do not even see how you think is close.

Every single one of his matches will be televised in multiple outlets all across the world.

He's been on ESPN five times this month.
