Obviously, the owners play a large role in things like labor disputes. However, Goodell is only valuable if he leads the owners down a prosperous, well chosen path. If I were an NFL owner, I would be seriously reconsidering whether Goodell is in over his head. The decisions he has made in the last 12 months alone have been horrible.
You are contradicting yourself.

It isn't a saints issue, its a league wide issue
And maybe some smarter heads would realize that Goodell is not the one with the final decision.
Goodell is getting blamed for 95% when he deserves a less.

“It is lost on us as to how you allow a Commissioner to cavalierly issue suspensions and fines in the name of player health and safety yet permit the wholesale removal of the officials that you trained and entrusted to maintain that very health and safety,” the letter states. “It has been reported that the two sides are apart by approximately $60,000 per team. We note that your Commissioner has fined an individual player as much in the name of ‘safety.’ Your actions are looking more and more like simple greed. As players, we see this game as more than the “product” you reference at times. You cannot simply switch to a group of cheaper officials and fulfill your legal, moral, and duty obligations to us and our fans. You need to end the lockout and bring back the officials immediately.”
that describes my opinion of Goodell in this situation pretty accurately.

Goodell is the one in public always preaching about the integrity of the game, protecting the shield, and fining players for public embarrassments to the league
it is hypocritical.
The owners are feeling the pressure from the media and from criticism of Goodell
nice flame attack against Saints fans though when everyone in the country is putting the blame on goodell

He is def deserves a large share of the blame because he is the face of the NFL, but make no mistake, he works for the owners and his primary job is to make them money.

This entire is all based on the assumption that Goodell is the biggest part of why the referees are locked out.
Again, the owners have the money, they have the power....just like the player lockouts, the decision will come from the owners.

Again, this is a pointless argument.
Not only that, we are completely ignoring the actual differences between what the refs want and what the refs are getting. not too long ago, before the regular season started, I heard a lot about how the owners were right for not backing down to the demands. Why does that change all of a sudden?

The history of sports commissioners in the U.S., starting with Landis, has not been that they are simply "Yes men" for the owners. This is reflected by the usual long length of service and long contracts.
Every owner can't be involved in negotiations with the refs. Goodell has to spearhead that effort. It hasn't worked out well. Who knows what is happening behind the scenes? Goodell could be advising the owners well and meeting resistance or he could be providing them with bad information/assessments. That being said, he can't be absolved of all blame by looking at this situation on its face. He is a huge part of the dynamics.
