His numbers are incredible. I put him behind Pedro as the 2nd best pitcher in my lifetime.

They definitely underachieved. When they finally won one, I liked the fans poster they showed that just said "...Finally"

Pedro in his prime was the greatest ever, but I think you could easily argue Maddux has an overall better career.

He is right. Pedro statistically has the greatest peak of all-time.

He's the best I've seen for sure.

And what is funny about what I said?

Greg Maddux won at least 15 games for 17 consecutive seasons, including a strike-shortened season...and 19 seasons out of 20. (Cy Young himself has the second longest streak at 15 seasons.) Most Cy Young Winners, no matter how young they are, have already missed more MONTHS than the dude did starts. He was an absolute beast and is massively underrated by people who only appreciate 100 mph fastballs.

While it is nearly impossible to compare generations and the fact that I was not alive when Koufax pitched, I cannot say there is a definite answer. However, Pedro has a higher ERA+ (which adjusts for era) and measures up pretty favorably in most comparisons. Maybe in the morning, we will get lucky and Baloo will spin us prose about their great peaks.

Yeah, too be honest I really don't know. Koufax was before my time. But Pedro was flat-out dominate in the most offensive era in baseball history.

pedro

if that 1999 season (in the heart of the steroid era) isn't the greatest season ever pitched, i'd be surprised.

13.20 K/9, 1.56 BB/9, 2.07 ERA. 1.39 FIP, 12.1 WAR
