So, you do admit that that is a criteria used by most people to rank players, right?
Moving a player up or down a few spots because they weren't able to win under certain circumstances is legit.
These circumstances are, in Dirk's case, being up 2-0 in the finals, being on a team with one of the biggest payrolls in the league(top 2?), being the #1 seed one year...
I'm seriously only moving him a few spots. It's not like I'm saying he's not in my top 50 or 30. I'm just saying he'll move into my top 25 if he wins a title or two.

Who's a better player, Jeff Hornacek or Robert Horry?

Most people think Batting Average is the best baseball metric, too. Doesn't make it right...

This discussion in general is pointless at this point in time. We have some people here who are pissed that the Mavericks are in the Finals so they want to run to the message boards after one game. These same people were probably saying Dallas was done after the Portland collapse and Miami was done after game one in Chicago. That's the way the NBA playoffs go, the team who won the last game looks like they will never lose. Let's let this thing play out.
I agree. But I'm not basing it off of last game. I'm basing it off of his career so far.
He still might win this series and if he does, I'll give him his props.

I'm not saying titles is the "best basketball metric". I'm just saying it's something that is used to rank players.

And all I'm saying is that if you think that he's top 20 IF he wins this series, then you logically have to believe that he's top 20 right now, as he's the same player today that he will be after the series is over.

I hope you're being deliberately obtuse.
My point is that just because "most people" think a certain way, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily the correct way to think.

I never said he would be top 20 if he wins a title. I said he'd move up a few spots into top 25.
I just can't justify him moving to top 20 as a one-dimensional player, right now.

sure, I'm, saying its stupid. Soph is right, Dirk doesn't get magically transformed if Dallas wins this series.

Define legit? Cause most people do it doesn't mean its correct. Jim Plunkett won 2 SB's he is not better than Dan Marino, I don't care what most people think.

We can argue about this all day, everyday, but the matter of the fact is that I am right and you are wrong.
But seriously, it's just opinion. Everybody is gonna have different criteria they look at and opinions will vary on how important that criteria is to them. So, I'll be the better man and say that you had good points but it wasn't enough. You'll be top 25 in my book someday.

You can say this 1,000 times and I still don't think he will get it. Just saying.

I DO get it. I understand where he's coming from. But like I said, in certain circumstances, titles need to be put into the equation.
And again, I don't think he's top 20. He's somewhere between 25-30. He can move up to the top 25 if he wins a title or two. Or he plays till he's 40 at this high of a level.
