re: In a twisted way, the Sterling controversy is great for the NBA

Lately, well after Jordan left and I became an adult, I haven't really cared for the NBA, but it also helps that the playoffs this year have been really, really good. I find myself watching at night, which would have never happened until the Finals in years past, Sterling controversy aside.

I actually agree with you on this one

I'm talking about for the sports fan who doesn't care too much about the NBA.
This publicity is generating new interest, right or wrong.

No, I completely agree. I was more or less getting at that it doesn't hurt that the playoffs have been really good, in a March Madness, you never know who is going to win, sorta way.

You are wrong. My wife HATES basketball. After watching CNN's coverage of this story, she wanted to watch the Clippers game last night for no other reason than intrigue.
Everyone at work is talking about it as well, and a few women who supposedly hate basketball watched their first NBA playoff game ever last evening.
Hmm. Trying to remove my preferences from the equation, and I could see how they wouldn't see the blatant referee favoritism in game, enjoying it for the spectacle that is Lob City etc...
I don't know why I didn't see this until your post, but I can definitely see the casual sports viewer in this country jumping in on the playoffs because of everything surrounding it. From an entertainment standpoint, that team has it all so I could be nice in the long run.

I agree. The playoffs have been incredible this year.
The NBA wins and Sterling wins (will explain in a moment).
Sadly, the only losers in this situation are African American coaches and players (will explain this too)...

BUT....should a man not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in his own home? Also, why should what I say within this reasonable expectation of privacy cause me to be forced to divest of a hugely expensive and profitable asset?
the NBA didn't hide secret mics in this guys house to out him as a POS. His dumb arse picked the wrong road lizard to screw with and it blew up in his face. Too bad so sad that he couldn't keep his personal biz outta the news and too bad so sad that it caused enough embarrassment that he will now be forced out.
Do you guys really not get that embarrassing business partners get forced out all across the business world? This isn't some brand new thing that a guy became so toxic he was forced to sell by the people he works with and it won't be the last.
The fact that anyone has any sympathy for him is mind blowing.

Do you believe that Target's mass compromise hurt the company? If so, you're wrong. Upon learning of the compromise of millions of Target customer's account information, they immediately hired a Crisis Management consulting firm based in Washington D.C. to create an emergency plan of action and public response.
Regardless of massive reporting of the compromise, Target's stock went up. Why?
Uhh, yea, that's not really true. It went up from its rock bottom sure but it has not recovered to where it was before the news came out.

That's because a business he's owned for 30 years is being forcefully taken from him.
I'm getting tired of people saying this.
He brought it on himself. He actually owns a NBA franchsise which he has a responsibilty not to do anything that will harm the NBA brand. I'm sure there are moral clauses in his franchise contract that he must abide by. In order to protect the brand, the NBA and his peer owners are fully within their right to pull his franchise ownership if they deem it's necessary. Just like with any other franchise in this country. If a Cane's franchisee did something to negatively affect the Cane's national brand, do you think they will still allow that person to operate a Cane's franchse?

Disagree. Everybody may be talking about Sterling but not about the games. For instance, last night you had an amazing game between Mem/OKC in which one of the favorites for the title is now on the brink of elimination. Not only that, but Durant comes up small down the stretch. I'm riding into work this morning, cut on Mike and Mike, and they have Jemele Hill on talking about Sterling.

Didn't read the thread but had to comment. Has anyone had their dick sucked more than Adam Silver for making the most logical decision of all time?

Do you actually have evidence that proves I'm wrong other than your wife watching a basketball game? We live in world that obsesses over anything that has to do with race. Of course this is going to be big news that people that don't give a shite about basketball will discuss. That still doesn't mean a bunch of people that don't care about basketball are discussing the NBA and how great the basketball is. They are discussing the old bastard and are interested in what his fate will be and as soon as this whole thing blows over, those people still won't give a shite about the NBA.
Can positives be made out of negatives? Yes. However, I don't think this event is going to bring a bunch of new fans to the NBA.
