Imagine how boring the American League would be without the second wild card

I just looked up the standings and didn't realize how spread apart the teams are. The Yankees are 5.5 games up in the AL East, Royals are leading the AL Central by 6.5 games and the only team within five games of the first WC team (Astros/Angels) are the Minnesota Twins. The only drama would be about which team wins the AL West but even that wouldn't matter much since the runner-up team would likely get the wild card. The races would just be incredibly boring. At least with the second wild card, there are a few more teams with an outside shot at getting in.

I look at it differently.

this is a year where neither league really warrants a second wild card. the AL is a bunch of mediocre teams besides a few good teams at the top. the astros will probably run away with the 1st wildcard spot with the addition of Kazmir.

Only 4 teams in the AL deserve playoff spots this year. in the NL, you could really say the same. The Cubs and Giants should be fighting down the stretch for the wildcard.

I hate the second wild card just because of the one game series. They should have a double header one day and one game in the other ballpark the next if necessary.

Well, no wild card is warranted, hence the one-game playoff's serving to treat their non-championship regular seasons with a relative disregard.

I look at the wild card as winning a 12 team division, at least before they added a second one...
