Iniesta is a pure playmaker. He isn't a goal scorer, but is the best pure Center mid in the game right now. Center midfield is supposed to be the position for setting up goals and controlling the field. It is not a goal scorer by definition, although you can have goal scorers at that position

Xavi is an amazing player also, but has to make some of the stupidest decisions at times and has horrid touch on the ball when shooting. I can't begin to count the number of blown chances on goal he had just in the Champions League.

That being said, if Iniesta went to the Premier League, he'd freaking dominate there, and likely have even more than triple his goal production since joining Barca. The style of play for Barca is about the forwards and wings scoring, not the center mids.

Anyhow, it really has more to do with people's blind obsession of the premiere league if they say otherwise. While it is a great league, it is overrated in my opinion. Is it the best overall? Yes, but not as head and shoulders above the Premiera some would like to believe.

Uh, Xavi was named the most valuable player in the Champions League final and had the assist to Messi(although I think Puyoul should have won the award)...Xavi was dominate in that game. Xavi is a very underrated free kick taker and I would put him up there with the best in the world as long as it is within close range.

ETA: Iniesta also got the assist to Eto'o for the first goal.

You will be pleased to know that Schweinsteiger is one of my top 5 favorite players. I think Wayne Rooney is going to take that distinction though.

On an unrelated note, I'm not sure what they are putting in the water in Barcelona, but these cats are fricking hideous...

Tiger in Austin, I am not trying to knock Xavi. He's a great player. He still makes stupid decisions at times, and played horribly, especially in the semi-final. His free-kick taking ability is not that great. I am sorry. The whole Champions League and much of Premiera league play he was off like crazy.

It doesn't make him not a great player, but I am sorry, he gets too much hype, especially being one of the most erratic players on Barca.

yeah man, that dude was seriously EVERYWHERE. i havent followed him much since euro 2008... ive of course read your posts about him... apparently he is STILL dominating.

no one impressed me more in a single tournament, recently, than him. like i said, when my roommate who knows jackshit about soccer, made that comment about how much schweinstegeier was dominating, that sealed the deal for me.

gerrard and xavi do deserve to be on my honorable mention list as well.

Really?

Really?

at 5'6 and 145 lbs? I'm sorry, I have never said he was anything but a great player, but if you think Iniesta would "dominate" the EPL I think you are sadly mistaken. I just don't think he has the size. I think he would be a good player for any team in the EPL but I don't think he would dominate or be as effective as he is for Barcelona.

Other than Messi, Xavi is probably my favorite player right now...so I will defend him allday everyday.

And when the hell did Barca get Maxwell, and is this team unstoppable?

For me:

Messi
Ronaldo (not fat one)
Kaka
Gerrard
Torres

I love Iniesta though but couldn't find anyone I'd substitute him for on this list. Coming up with a list of ten would be interesting as well.

And for all that put Lampard, gfy. Thanks.
