what the hell is ND thinking decided against going to a bowl game, citing "unique circumstances"

They are above any of the bowl games offered. I would always want to go to a bowl game if offered.

When you have alot of turmoil like that on a team, sometimes it is better to call it quits and regroup. Teams turn down the NIT in basketball for the same reasons.

Giving up a month of practice is beyond stupid.

It is suprising since players get like $400 dollars in bowl gifts.

Maybe in the GMAC bowl, but the guys in BCS games get thousands in gifts. When my buddy from OU went to the Nokia Sugar bowl he got the newest phone out and free service aside from a bunch of other things.

This. Wasn't it the seniors who voted on it? If so they were being extremely butthurt and selfish.

The bowls are only suppose to give $400 eventhough it is undervalued. It may be a little more, but it ain't in the thousands because one of my best friends used to work for LSU's team.

They can't get an invite until ALL the 7-5 teams get picked. Bottom line is they could go to either Detroit or Mobile. Bleh....

500 dollar value is the limit I believe.
Playing in a bowl game offers a college football team many opportunities.
It could be the chance for a National Championship. A class of seniors could end their final season on a high note. An up-and-coming team has the opportunity to get in a few extra weeks of practice.
One big benefit for the players is the gift package they receive from the bowl game in which they are playing.
Rings, watches, sweatshirts, iPods, video games, cameras and even tanning lotion are some of the items bowls will be giving to players this postseason.
The bowl goodie bags are allowed to have a value of $500 per player. With each team receiving 125 gift packages, that adds up to $62,500 in gifts for each school.

it's not about the AD, it's about the players that have busted their a** all year...irregardless of what bowl, the players deserve the opportunity and the perks that come with that bowl...

This is the limit from the bowl, but the university usually gives gifts as well to its players (it's the loophole they use to go above the $500 max)

Who cares. It's nice to see that they acknowledge that they don't belong on my TV in December/January
