I know this board isn't big on hockey, but I'm surprised this hasn't made it here...

Evander Kane files bankruptcy
This dude was the #4 pick in the 2009 draft and has made more than $55M during his career with another $32M on the way and is broke with $27M in liabilities w/$10M in assets.
I give him a slight break due to the fact that he started getting paid at the age of 18 and as a military man, I've seen the stupid shite that an 18 year old can do with his money, but he's leaning towards opting out of the season and trying to get out of his contract.
I can't see anyone guaranteeing anything near the $32M that he is due through the end of his contract. He's turned into a complete liability who still has some star power (on and NHL player level).
This dude needs to sell anything that he has and try to do a complete restart financially and make the most of the rest of his contract.

Isn't that guy still an active player? Usually, athletes go broke after they finish their playing career. How the hell do you go broke while making millions of dollars in yearly salary?

1.5 mil in gambling losses and has 7 dependents. Surprised he made it this long.

Pro athletes need to learn budgeting skills. It should be mandatory classes for ncaa athletes and the pro sports leagues should send a financial advisor to each team. So many pro players going broke, they got to stop spending it on frivolous shite and giving out to their entourage

Sounds like he’s skating on thin ice.
