So a team wouldnt want him as the co-star or #2 player????

Hard to imagine that happening, but he would be great as a second option on a team that had great defense already in place.

It's weird. He's obviously an elite scorer. All teams need a scorer, but he's not right for most teams because most teams need a lot of other things as well.

He best fits a team that is otherwise well put together, like a Chicago. He would've been deadly there. But without players next to him that shore up his many weaknesses, he's not worth much. For his price tag he's just not worth it for most teams.

very well said. i think this applied to bosh in toronto, and currently applies to kevin love. these players are skilled, just not as a best player even with some elite skills they possess. you expect a bigger impact on the game and season than what they show.

to top that off they are max players which take a chunk of your cap space for someone who can't be the man. market worth is market worth when it comes to the max. look at gordon hayward. it only takes one desperate team or someone with cash to spend like with eric gordon.

e's just obviously not a player that's going to carry his team to an NBA championship.

No defense. No fire. Worst of all, he's not a leader and it shows.

The only reason would be to put butts in the seats but an educated fan would be sick having to watch Melo ruin his team every night and wouldn't pay to watch it for long.

Bingo we have a winner.

A few years back when he did that chicken shite sucker punch and then ran away, that told me all I needed to know about Melo.

But Melo is all about the money. Stay in NY Melo, get rich and be happy on a losing team.

I hate this argument. If he went to Chicago, everyone would be calling him a ring chaser. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

Exactly. Melo stays in NY and is blasted for being "all about the money". If he would have left it would have been "he's not loyal" and a "ring chaser".

It's a lose lose situation for athletes nowadays really.

Everyone is blasting the Knicks talking about being a terrible team yet he stays. It's a challenge but nobody respects that, they say he's all about the money.

Why not stay, get paid....then wait till next year when the Knicks have A TON OF CAP SPACE to pay another superstar and compete for a title...exactly what Melo is doing here.

Kobe was a better defender but his teams didn't do any more than Carmelo's after shaq and before Gasol. They're both volume scorers that shoot around the same percentage, but with vastly different organizations/circumstances throughout their careers.

Right. His skills are obviously elite. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can't start your team with a Carmelo Anthony, but you can absolutely complete it with him. He would best come in to complement a system, not be the system.

Problem with doing that is that his price tag is prohibitive. That's the biggest obstacle for him winning a championship. It's not because he's not good enough. The economics won't work out. A team can take two or three mediocre scorers or spot up shooters, that combined with the other things they can do, together give you more than Melo can.

In his defense, I can't imagine leaving that much money on the table to be that final piece.

Triangle...

The Knicks now have a PG that plays smart, doesn't turn it over, and can absolutely light it up from the outside. Something Melo hasn't had during his tenure in NY.

It's a big IF...but IF Bargnani can stay healthy, I think he will also do well in the triangle. Shumpert and Hardaway Jr are good young players. And I'm gonna go ahead and say it now but I think STAT has a decent year also.

Knicks #6 seed next season.

I agree. Its not about the money. That is why I added the Eric Gordon and Gordon Hayward getting max contract examples. You can question his desire to win leaving the Nuggets for the Knicks coupled with the reasoning. Chicago was perfect for him.

Carmelo is said to be a superstar along with Bosh and Kevin Love. They are all in the same category and not on a Lebron, Durant, prime and healthy Wade, Duncan, or Dirk mold/level. Those players show up in the season and the playoffs. Their impact is huge (superstar). At worst they get to the playoffs and their teams are contenders.
