At least they get paid, unlike that worthless Packers Stock that fans buy to frame on their wall to sign another free agent.
Between the NFL and the Packers fans, no organization gets more free money than the Packers. Most subsidized team in the NFL...cause gotta keep that historic small market.

Well that is stupid.
It is a novelty item.

But fans believe it.
I'm an owner of a team!
There's no dividends, they don't have any say...it's faux stock and the NFL lets them get away with it I guess because if fans want to own a piece of paper that cost them $250 then so be it.
But whenever the Packers need money, they re-issue stock. And everyone says, isn't it great, the team is technically owned by the city, that's why they can never move.
Technically yes, but they are owned by 1 guy. Yet they call themselves a publicly owned company with stockholders who hold over 5 million in shares.
The NFL rules states, that a club has to be owned by ONE owner or a small group of owners. But the Packers were grandfathered in to this rule and claim that the club is owned by 360,000 people...who have no say, never get a dividend and make no money off the club.
Btw, the population of Green Bay is 105,139 people.
That means, 3X the population of Green Bay, apparently owns the Packers.
The last stock offering raised apparently $200 mil to allow for the Packers to renovate their stadium.

From time to time, the Packers sell shares of stock to the general public. And while they technically represent a sliver of ownership of the franchise, even though “[s]tock in the Packers does not constitute ‘stock’ in the common sense of the term.”
Still, plenty of fans will buy what essentially is a glorified piece of memorabilia. Apparently, they’ll even buy even more meaningless pieces of glorified memorabilia commemorating their original piece of glorified memorabilia.
The Packers have made available to current shareholders a “collectible document” that is, essentially, a photograph with an inscription that confirms their separate ownership of a share of non-stock stock.

Seems to me that they are the least subsidized.
Other NFL teams get public funds to build billion dollar stadiums and other tax breaks but the Packers renovate the oldest stadium in the league by getting it partially paid by "donations" from owners.
It might technically be free but it is far less than what other teams get and the city still owns the team and stadium.
Instead of the NFL dividends flowing into a single person, the city can reinvest into the team.
They don't have to worry about a Stan Kroenke or Zygi Wilf leveraging to move.
Being small market and publicly owned also hasn't hurt them on the field over the years either.
I love the Packers structure and wish other cities could own teams.
I bet the people of NO, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, SD Chargers, Oakland Raiders etc, who have terrible owners groups or are at threat to move would love this arraignment.
Hell most of those cities already paid for the stadium.

Why does being a fan of another team have to be mentioned before you tell us something is cool?

They get to go to a shareholders meeting at Lambeau in the spring. So that's worth it.

If you live in Green Bay, love the Packers and could use some extra beer money, your favorite team might have just the job for you.

Whenever I meet a packers fan irl and they tell me they are an ‘owner’ of the team I want to slap the shite out of them.

This is the sports equivalent of unnecessarily putting “I’m not gay but...” in a sentence

Seems better than taxpayers footing the bill like they do in other cities.
