You have a middle school kid who's already bigger, faster, and stronger than his peers. People in the know tell you he has the tools to be a highly recruited college prospect, and play in the NFL if all goes as expected. Knowing what you know about the toll it takes, would you encourage him to pursue this goal, or would you steer him in another direction. Be truthful.

Does it make him happy?

Cocaine and hookers would make a kid happy.

Is it OK to let them do that too?

If he truly wanted to pursue football, I would encourage him. I would just try and ram it home and make sure he understands the dangers associated with the game, and depending on what position he plays, make sure he knows proper tackling technique etc.

Honestly, my feelings would likely change if he suffered a serious concussion early on.

If he is most likely gonna play a year in the NFL then yes.

What poor person wouldn't trade a year in the NFL for health problems.

Probably all the smart ones wouldn't take that terrible deal.
