They kicked the deadline from 12/1 to late January for letting ESPN know what format changes are coming for next season.
the SEC and Big Ten have very different models, i tend to think they will eliminate or modify the conference champions rule as nobody wants multiple g5 teams in.
i can see them going to 16 maybe but hopefully they eliminate auto bids all together. that would make CCGs even less important but they probably need to go away in the next few years anyway.

Auto bids for the "schools" that spent the most money on their rosters
You don't get a bye if your "school's" payroll is under 50 million

A bump to 16 teams is coming. Those home playoff games are too lucrative to not have 4 more of them.

Maybe not next year, but eventually they will move to 14 or 16 teams with a set amount of berths for each conference. Notre Dame joining a conference and the ACC/Big 12 agreeing to have less slots than the SEC/Big Ten will be a big part of that coming to fruition.
If Notre Dame doesn't join a conference, then they will have to have some sort of stipulation for them and only them, or group them with the Group of 5 teams.
I don't think less than a year is enough time to figure out the logistics to change conference championship weekend. But eventually, that will be a play-in weekend.

Yep. You’ll have 4 on Friday and 4 on Saturday.

You are definitely getting some stipulations placed on G5 teams. They do not want 2 ever again. You’ll either see a top 16 or top 20 ranking requirement or a SOS requirement.
