Athletic departments (and fans outside of kentucky) in the SEC pretty much put all their eggs in the football basket.

Cant blame them, thats where the money is.

It's cyclical.

Even still the SEC has 3 national titles the last 7 seasons.

Some years it is. Tennessee won't be down like it is for long. Vanderbilt has had an very good program the past 5-6 years.

Add in Kentucky, Florida.

If you buy into recruiting rankings and momentum, LSU would be a tourny team next year.

I think it's set to get stronger in the next couple seasons with some pretty good recruiting classes coming in and some more stability at the HC spot.

Right now you have a few 1-3 year coaches and then others that are a foot out of the door. Once it stabilizes we'll be back to a 5 ish bid league.

Blame the success of baseball and football. As dominate as the SEC is in football they are just as dominant top to bottom in baseball. Your fan base starts to get stretched IMO

A lot. Southern high school kids who might have been good in basketball go out for football because it's such a damn big deal. As for the North, they aren't going to try much with baseball considering it snows half the year up there, so the depeartments shove more into developing basketball.

Has nothing to do with this discussion.

Like The Boat said, it's all cyclical. SEC has had three of the last seven national champions. ACC has had two, Big East and Big 12 each had one. If you want to go back a decade, every conference is tied with 3 besides Big 12 (Kansas).

People are overreacting to how bad the SEC was this year. This dip won't last long, and it has nothing to do with football.

SEC will be behind B1G and ACC always (and the new Big East) in basketball, but not super far.
