Its really bad. With HD and 10 camera angles should be able to design an AI program to do the job.

There should be a computer chip inside the ball that coincides with sensors along the down markers and goal line / pylons

GPS from a tracker on the helmets and one in the football. Should be pretty easy with today's technology. Come up with a tolerance for forward momentum.

Would also make it easy to call offsides or false starts. I have a feeling there would be ALOT more false starts.

NFL needs to look at the rules. Obviously with 20+ penalties every game they are asking too much of the players.

tennis can pinpoint a ball going 140 mph down to the pubic hair but the biggest sport in the country is relying on a bunch of elderly fricks

AI can’t decipher intent. Roby Coleman was let off the hook because the officials determined he didn’t intend to interfere.

This is the most obvious and probably easiest to implement immediately.

How many games come down to mere inches? And we're still relying on the naked eye to pinpoint exactly where a guy is down while in a pile of players?

It's ridiculous when you stop and think about it.

That would take too much power and control of results from the nfl. Not gonna happen.

Too much of a concern about the computers punishing holding by levying a ten yard penalty and launching all of our nukes at Russia.
