College Gameday literary does a Kelly puff piece within an hour or so of scolding Maryland and saying the schools football program is finished because a kid died of heat stroke "on Durkin's watch"

Who the hell's "watch" was it that very windy day the kid climbed in a shaky video tower?? Is the student Video kid not a part of the Notre Dame football program...

Both events are equally negligible, are they not?

Because the video coordinator sent him up there not Kelly. The guy even replaced the girl usually with this guy.

Read the OSHA report

Notre Dame also was sued for negligence and settled.

And the S&C coach killed the Maryland player, but Durkin lost his job.

Kelly was at practice. He wanted video and decided to practice outside that day.

quote:

Less than an hour earlier, Sullivan had tweeted his concerns about what he described as "terrifying" weather.

"Gusts of wind up to 60 mph today will be fun at work ... I guess I've lived long enough," he wrote.

The kid tweeted he'd die in the weather, and he was proven correct.

During the Maryland segment Finebaum says in his 50 years of covering college football, bringing back DJ Durkin, for a day mind you, is the most heinous thing he's seen. In 40 years.

What a worthless POS the majority of those ESPN talking heads are. It's sick the pass they give and get

It’s mainly due to the way the parents reacted to the situation. McNair’s parents were infuriated and wanted blood while Declan Sullivan’s parents were a lot more forgiving.

quote:

Sullivan was largely forgotten in this coverage, his story the detritus of a tragedy teased through the modern news grind. The reaction was playing out exactly as expected until the Sullivans made their feelings known in public.

They did not have the moral outrage that others mustered for them. They acknowledged that Notre Dame had made mistakes, that his death could and should have been prevented. Yet the Sullivans cheered, for Notre Dame and for its football team, even louder than before. Their daughter, Gwyneth or Wyn, as she is called, continued to attend college there. Their other son, Macartan, known as Mac, recently submitted his application.

How is that any different than the Maryland strength coach being the primary factor in the Maryland kid's death? Both are under the head coaches watch, or at least that's what is said about Durkin.

And that school, too is also possibly going to be involved in a negelgence suit that nets an out of court settlement.

I get that Kelly was there but the Video Coordinator sent the guy up there after replacing a girl because she was too scared.

But Kelly didn’t give the order the other guy did

Durkin was fired because of media pressure and a President for optics not an investigation not exactly the same.

If you believe the head coach of a div one football team needs to advise his video coordinator how to do his job, you're beyond stupid.

The strength coach is more directly tied to the head coach. In fact, he's often the closest coach in terms of getting player feedback.

Comparing a video coordinator to a strength coach is borderline mental disability status

You have to prove all three points in negligence and since Kelly nor Durkin gave expressed order they will get off since technically they aren’t in charge at that time.

That peice disgusted me. Finebaum's self righteousness was loathsome. And they play a promo for the Kelly interview within minutes of that segment, without any sense of irony.

That's what we're asking about Kelly though. I guess most people don't think about the videguys as part of the football team, but they are.

Actually they aren’t. But I get your point. Video guys are most separate part of the group

The video coordinator told the coach not to practice outside due to the weather. Kelly wanted it outside and wanted it filmed.

Yep. As someone who did coaches video back then there’s no way that kid should’ve been up there. The coaching staff no doubt told the video coordinator to him up there. What’s a guy making $60k/yr supposed to say to Brian Kelly? If this happened today all hell would’ve came upon BK

It was sickening. High and mighty about a Damn coach coming back for a day, mistake being corrected. Acted like someone had crucified Jesus, it was just disgusting to watch. While not saying one damn word about the young man, who you know ended up dead.
