The ref threw a flag didn't he? So in his mind he thought it was a penalty.

The conference will adjust the penalty accordingly

He was flagged for a PF unsportsmanlike conduct.

The ref had every right to do that. You can get that just for arguing with a ref. Ref didn’t want to be bigger than the game by ejecting the kid for explaining himself in an emotionally charged situation at the goal line—kudos to him for that. It was the correct call and I doubt Ohio States staff disagrees.

The rule is absolutely clear...and all refs expect others to adhere completely. Its what protects them.
Having that clown cower down to Michigan and keep the kid in the game , is pathetic

And I despise both these teams

Not during the argument but right after the helmet contact.

Only thing that makes sense is he was trying to explain what happened and it was an accident.

Most officials would act like they got shot in that situation.

Ok, so what? Ref thought he was too worked up and crossed the line and needed to be calmed down. They were talking and it was clearly an accident. Maybe he said something. Maybe the ref had told him to stop and he didn’t.

Clearly the ref didn’t think it warranted ejection. Which is all you should need to know. There’s no rule that says any player that touches a ref is required to be ejected. It is up to the ref.
