You really think Marciano would beat him

Marciano wouldn't land a punch. I judge careers, not talent. Mickey Mantle and the Babe wouldn't be great at baseball in todays era, but we still consider them ahead of most of todays greats.

do you not penalize when someone gets beat up later on in their career?

Never been tested imo

You can say the same thing about Tyson in his prime. The mid to late 80s is considered the weakest 5-7 years of Heavyweight boxing talent ever up until the the last decade of crap we are going through now started.

Organized under a monopolistic promoter (Dana White). Its too easy for UFC to manipulate the system. Whereas in boxing all there is to worry about is someone being paid to flop. In boxing you have multiple organizations declaring champions. No one entity controls the sport when it comes to match making.

When a guy is 48 years old fighting to pay bills, I still remember when he was 28 and owning the sport.

So you're saying the UFC is flawed b/c there's only 1 promoter who forces the best to fight each other vs. boxing (the better system) where the best never fight each other in their prime. Where the best hand pick their tomato cans for 30+ straight fights

Haven't there already been rumors about this with Kimbo Slice? I know that wasn't UFC, but it was still MMA.

Always interesting when people think of GOAT.

Joe Louis is up there.
Ali is definite Top 3. I didn't like the act, but the dude could fight and was freakin tough.

Can't really say on guys like Dempsey and Johnson way before my time and never really got to see them.

Tyson, no way. Maybe on potential but that's it. He was a buzzsaw for sure. Had D'amato lived, maybe.
He was a more talented version of Smokin Joe, but didn't have Smokin Joe's mental toughness. I think Ali would have done to Tyson similar to what Holyfield did but worst.

Foreman is much like Tyson. Potentially could have been the greatest.

No doubt Holmes is underrated. There weren't great Heavyweights, but he beat some good one's. He could have given any fighter a good tussel, but he made fights closer than they should be.

L.Lewis was probably top 10, but could've been better.

Too bad there is nobody to even give Wlad a fight.

I'm not saying UFC is flawed at all. I think you missed my point. Sure the system gives UFC the power to pick the best to fight, but that same power could allow them to create story lines. I hope it doesn't happen, but I will say it wouldn't surprise me.

I see what he is saying. Boxing started losing a lot of it's popular appeal when Don King seemed to run everything. Fans started thinking the fix was in in some form or another and boxing hasn't recovered.

great example

Kimbo comes into mma and gets KO'd in a garbage league. He tries to get into the UFC and Dana White makes him live in TUF house and earn his way into the UFC. Needless to say he doesn't make it, he gets his arse kicked.

So what is ole Kimbo doing right now? Whipping garbage hand-picked tomato can arse in boxing for a living

Yeah, I met Dr. Martin Luther King in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. I walkin' down the street minding my own business, just walking on. Feelin' good. I walk around the corner, a man walk up, hit me in my chest, right. I fall on the ground, right. And I look up and it's Dr. Martin Luther King. I said 'Dr. King?' and he said 'Ooops, I thought you were some body else.'

And really Brock Lesner was just placed right into the top spot. IIRC he didn't exactly work his way up throught the ranks did he?

Or am I mis-remembering?
