You think those two stats are not horrible? How are they not anything more than pathetic if you want to liken him to a legitimate Heisman candidate?

He has ONE AND A HALF sacks on the year. That's fricking awful for any linebacker that has played 12 games this year.

ND has had no trouble getting TFL or sacks that just not his role in the defense. Is it his fault for doing what is asked of him?

no, but he still isn't Heisman finalist worthy.

a rudimentary understanding of football is all one needs really.

Elite defenses (ND #2 in country) are a) not on the field long and b) have other elite players making plays and contributing, e.g. more than one player is making the tackles...

Offensive teams who control the ball for long periods of time (ND #11 in total time of possession) also contribute to less opportunities for their defensive players to be on the field.

This means that Teo had less opportunity's to generate high defensive statistics. IF Teo's statistics were all we used to evaluate talent, Teo would not be a Top 10 NFL pick...

No one is saying Manti isn't a great player on a great defense

All I'm saying is that to win the heisman as a defensive player your stats have to be above and beyond.

It seems that Manti's stats are not above and beyond. Great leadership and a perfect record should not be enough to push a Lb with average stats (save ints) to a heisman trophy.

Btw the way. LSU had a great defense and a ball control offense last year and HB7 had better stats and returned kicks and that wasn't enough for a heisman

*sigh* i explained why they are not, but you either refused to pay attention or do possess the mental propensity to understand the argument.

TIL that the heisman is a typically not given to defensive players even when they deserve it; shocking...

the best player on the best team in the country is typically involved in the heisman trophy discussions, crazy isn't it.

Don't be a tool. The fact is, teo doesn't deserve the heisman and you probably know it.

Usually that player has better than run of the mill stats for their position if they are finalist.

You're so cute dancing around the question.

Why does teo deserve to win the heisman trophy this year?

his potential draft status means jack shite when it comes to awards.

Dat had nearly 50 more tackles and similar stats in other categories on the 98 A&M team that was 10th overall in D.

Teo's team defense being good is not a legit excuse for many of his stats being lackluster compared to other great LBs of the past or defensive players from this year.

again

1998 Dat Nguyen on 1998 TAMU, won Big 12 title, beat #1 KSU and #2 Nebraska, finished 11-2 in reg season and #6 in BCS

147 tackles
20 tackles for loss
4 sacks
4 INTs
4 forced fumbles
1 TD
no NYC invite

Te'o's 2012 stats:
103 tackles
5.5 tackles for loss
2 sacks
7 INTs
0 forced fumbles
0 TDs

Dat won some defensive awards (Bednarik &
Lombardi) but didnt even sniff Heisman consideration. He also had a great story coming from South Vietnam as a refugee.

he's actually on pace to win more awards then any other player in cfb history...he already has 3, with the potential for 5 more...

*the more ya know*

Why can't you just tell us all why Manti Teo deserves to win the heisman trophy this year?

not sure he *deserves* to win it, but he at least deserves to be in the discussion because

-its a shitty year
-his team is undefeated
-he is the best player on said team
-his per snap numbers are elite
