People can say what they want, but Jrock in high school in Mobile was one of the best to ever spin it. I lived across the bay during his junior and senior years and his weekly highlights on the news were must see tv. Post-LSU Russell is laughable.

Not saying he wasn't strong, just that he wasn't exceptionally big.

Understood. Point was that as with Mays you don’t have to be a behemoth to be strong.

Mays and Clemente were built like middleweight boxers.

That is a fantastic analogy.

Clemente never touched a weight in his life and he had a physique like a Greek god. With his shirt off he was about as ripped as Mays. Supposedly his waist size never changed from age 21 until he was killed.

Aaron wasn't as visibly strong as them ... toward the end of his career he actually developed a little pot belly ... but looks were deceiving plus he had the amazing hand-eye coordination.

Someone else who was ripped was Sandy Koufax. His coach in high school said he could've been an Olympic gold medal winner in anything but the speed sports, he was such a great all-around athlete. Dude started running marathons in his 60s just to prove he could (and he did it even though he is, or at least he used to be, a chain smoker).

We're talking about the absolute immortals here ...

Koufax was a hell of a basketball player in HS.

I loved Jamarcus Russell but you're taking a junior and senior year of high school and half a year of college from one guy and comparing it to 5 of the greatest athletes to ever play sports. As good as Russell might have been for two years in high school, it does not put him in the company of the others you mentioned.
