well to start with, it was 1st down so it didnt matter

Read the OP.

On 3rd and 12 with 34 seconds left on the bucs' 31 yard line, Goff took a knee. The bucs could have take their last TO. The TO would force the lions to kick about a 49 yard FG or punt.

At least the Lions didn’t fake kneel and score like another team did.

I think it was all gentlemens agreement playing out. When TB didn’t use TO after Lions kneeling on first down Lions didn’t use all of clock between downs in return. That was the white flag.

Lions took over at 1:33. 40 secs drains it to :53. After 2nd down it would go to :13. Sinve TB didn’t call TO the Lions just kneeled it out. Had TB called one after first kneel it would have been around 1:28. Take longer to kneel on 2nd and its now kneeled at around 1:23. Then deduct 40 secs takes it to :43. Then take 4 secs before kneel on 3rd down its at :39. It never gets to 4th down.

I think thats what happened and TB knew it.

And because the Lions mismanaged the clock, kneeling down before burning the full 40 seconds on each of the three kneel downs, Tampa Bay could have gotten the ball back with around 30 seconds left instead of 12.

Campbell admitted Monday that the Lions needed to do a better job of running down the clock.

“First of all, we didn’t handle that whole thing well on our end,” Campbell told beat writers. “We should have bled it more than we did. Look, I’ll be the first to admit that, and that’s on me. But yeah, we knew he had a timeout left. I could tell he wasn’t going to call it. That’s how it ended.”

Similarly I couldn’t understand why at the end of the 49ers game they didn’t take the TO to make them have to snap it again. It was pouring. GB had 2 TOs.
I’d make them execute the snap in the rain until no time was left

Bowles basically said he didn’t think the chances were good enough to take the TO.

That's a fireable offense

I honestly think he didn’t call the TO after the third down kneel as a courtesy. I don’t know why he didn’t call it after the first down kneel.

Which actually opens up a potential strategy. If you call it after the first down kneel, the Lions will make damn sure they run out the clock and the game is over.

If you sit on it you leave room for them to frick it up like they did. Goff made a monumental mistake that was only bailed out by Bowles one-upping him.

I wondered if it was an error when I saw 1 left. Announcers even said Det won and I was like well not yet, but then TB never did anything. Odd.
