Has the PGA tour ever had this much parity in any other decade?

There are so many good players and nobody is the "Jack Nicklaus" of this day and time. Now that Tiger is out of sync, the PGA tour is full of a lof of very good players but nobody is dominant like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones, Watson etc.... Has there ever been this much parity? This game is a lot more fun to watch now that Tiger isn't dominating.

Yes, there has been points in time like this. However there might be someone who history sees as a dominate force on the tour right now. What hAs been different is that thier is usually 2 dominate players at a time.

The funny part of it is, the "other" guy, Phil Mickelson, can't seem to compete with the guys that are winning. The PGA had it right when they came up with the slogan "These guys are good".

As a golfer I shot 81 today, so I guess I am not a complete hack. Those guys are so accurate it isn't even funny. And long. They are amazing out of bunkers. I think Kegan is here to stay, but I don't know how well duffer recovers. The parity is not good for expanding the game, but it is fun for existing golf fans.
I love how the week after a big golf tournement you can sterotype who is playing the next week by who won the tournement. The worst was the old people post Tom Watson. Pace of play slowed for months.

Btw: if I ever get down to scratch I am going to do a name change request to lsuscratch.

We're splitting hairs, but Jack had 3 more majors in him after he turned 40.

He had two when he was 40 in 1980.

Phil's actually 41 now. I was talking from the point forward.

I know, I just can't imagine another tiger in today's game. I can imagine another Watson, phil, Payne. There is just too much talent comming out for another Tiger.

I know I was saying that the realitive brand, coupled with success of a player we will see over the next 10 years will be like those I listed.

'91-99...the majority of his 30's he was terrible.

Payne is my favorite golfer, BTW.

Playing with a guy who plays on the Nationwide Tour will blow your mind. Playing with a top echelon PGA tour player would be ridiculous.

Just to add, I've played with a Nationwide player before and hitting after them made me feel like some kind of retarded mongoloid oaf. I'm not a terrible golfer, well maybe sometimes, but hitting after that... no thank you. We actually played in a scramble together - want to know how many of my shots we used???

My dad played in college and played in a Nike Tour pro-am 10 years or so ago...distance wise he was fine but he said their accuracy was just insane.

yeah, it was like watching a golf machine, didn't matter whether it was a 9 iron or a 2 iron - every shot had the same flight pattern. Sick.

I saw a chart the other day that showed that a pro's top flight was within a yard on every club they hit. Literally their 2 iron went as high as their pw. Most of the time they hit the driver higher than any other club.

There are thousands of guys who can hit the ball the way the pros do.....it's the putting that makes the difference. In a good round I'll make 2-3 putts over 10 feet and make half of them inside 10 feet, averaging around 30 putts a round and hitting fewer greens so i have a lot more up and down chances than a pro. A pro will make 5 or more putts over 10 feet in a round and will make 80% inside 10 feet.....so they rarely take 30 or more putts in a around AND that's considering they hit 75% off the greens in regulation.
