re: Hank Haney and radio host spar over Tiger book

From what I have gleaned from the book, Haney takes stuff that should be confidential between player/coach and lets it out to the public.
He claims the book is about coaching Tiger, and in its entirety it might be, but from the excerpts it seems like Haney just wants to put Tiger's dirty laundry out even more than it has been already.
I hope he is done with his professional coaching, because if not, there is no way another player in his right mind on tour will pick him knowing that whatever he says and does in supposed "confidentiality" can be exposed to the public.
The whole book IMO is Haney trying to squeeze every last drop of Tiger juice he can. Now I, and many other people may be wrong, but from what has come out so far is nothing but more slander on Tiger's name. That is fricked up on Haney's part.
There's no doubt he has a right to make the book, but should he have? Or should he have included those parts about Tiger's life outside of golf? If it really was just about coaching Tiger, it should be nothing but about Tiger playing golf, plain and simple.

Why you mad tho?
Who gives a flying frick what he or any other athlete does in their personal time. All that matters is what he does on the court/field/course/rink.
In other words frick people who care about other peoples' personal lives.

Of course everything you hear will be slander. They aren't going to bring Haney on to radio shows to point out Haney's breakdown of Tigers actual golf game. And you know it is all being taken out of context. Whether or not it helps his case or not, all these quotes from the book mean nothing without that context.
And I can't honestly get over how pissed people like Canton are when the worst part of the book they can bring up to Haney (at least that I have heard) is how he doesn't want him or his wife to celebrate after a win. If this is the juiciest story you publish in a book about Tiger Woods after what he has done, I don't know what to tell you guys.

I'm halfway through the book, and so far there's nothing in it that is slanderous at all. Most of it actually praises Tiger. There are a few things that I could see Tiger being pissed about Haney making public, and but they all have to do with either golf or other PGA Tour pros. No one should criticize this or any other book without reading it first.

I wonder if Tiger has a confidentiality agreement with Sean Foley?

Bingo.
As someone said before, "If you think that Tiger telling his wife not to celebrate is the worst thing that could be "slandered" about Tiger," then ya'll have your heads in the sand.
Tiger is no angel, and most of the players on tour don't like him (maybe he's become more friendly post the 9 iron to the window). He was a world class A-hole to the entire golf community, fans included.
However, I do understand the argument that Haney is just trying to make money off of Tiger. But don't all people who write a book do that?

no one says he isn't allowed to. Writing the book was a bitch move and he should be criticized for it

i've heard most of the players really like tiger, outside of competitive golf,of course.i love how people act like 99% of the big name guys on tour aren't assholes too.never understood all the tiger hate, except fo his complete arse rape of the tour for years

It started with Earl. My dislike for Tiger started in December of 1996 in a Sports Illustrated article in which Earl Woods portrayed Tiger as the greatest human to ever live. Forget golf, "Tiger will be more important to mankind that Ghandi."

Which is why I said the book might actually be about golf but the only stuff coming out right now is fricked up on Haney's part.
Choupique - Thats crazy, don't think I've ever heard that quote before.

yeah that's a little over the top.i just wanna see the best golf ever played and he's the only guy who is capable of that

SI named him athlete of the year for 1996. They should not have named him winner for 1996. They should have waited for 1997, when he won the Masters. But anyway...
Earl Woods really thought highly of his son
If you ever wondered why Tiger thought the rules didn't apply to him, just read his father's words. Don't tell Tiger he has to allow the media into the locker room after a win. Don't tell Tiger he has to talk to the media after a bad round. Don't tell Tiger he can't have sex with every porn star and skank within sight.
Earl Woods really thought highly of his son
quote:
Tiger Woods was raised to believe that his destiny is not only to be the greatest golfer ever but also to change the world. Will the pressures of celebrity grind him down first?
quote:
Earl said, "Please forgive me ... but sometimes I get very emotional ... when I talk about my son.... My heart ... fills with so ... much ... joy ... when I realize ... that this young man ... is going to be able ... to help so many people.... He will transcend this game ... and bring to the world ... a humanitarianism ... which has never been known before. The world will be a better place to live in ... by virtue of his existence ... and his presence.... I acknowledge only a small part in that ... in that I know that I was personally selected by God himself ... to nurture this young man ... and bring him to the point where he can make his contribution to humanity.... This is my treasure.... Please accept it ... and use it wisely.... Thank you."
quote:
Tiger will win because of God's mind. Can't you see the pattern? Earl Woods asks. Can't you see the signs? "Tiger will do more than any other man in history to change the course of humanity," Earl says.
quote:
Anyone, Mr. Woods? Your son will have more impact than Nelson Mandela, more than Gandhi, more than Buddha?
"Yes, because he has a larger forum than any of them. Because he's playing a sport that's international. Because he's qualified through his ethnicity to accomplish miracles. He's the bridge between the East and the West. There is no limit because he has the guidance. I don't know yet exactly what form this will take. But he is the Chosen One. He'll have the power to impact nations. Not people. Nations. The world is just getting a taste of his power."

i had completely forgotten that.i remember a lot of the analysts at the time saying tiger wouldn't dominate the tour.i can see how people would be pissed off about those comments from earl

I almost feel bad for Tiger, his Dad was one crazy frick. Can you imagine having to live up to those expectations that you're dad bestowed on you?

I used to think that. I knew he would win, but nobody just dominates the PGA Tour.
However, Tiger did dominate the tour like no one ever before. I was wrong... about the golf.

Might drive you to need some serious down time to help deal with the pressure. You know, like hooking up with porn stars on the side.

i don't really get the anger over all the skanks by some.nobody ever gets mad at nba guys with all the illegitmate kids or mlb guys that have bitches in every city they go to.is it only shocking because of the view of the game of golf as an aristocratic sport?

It's because the media had never spoken negatively about Tiger before that.

I think people shake their head at it, but you're right. Others aren't ridiculed for it like Tiger was.

might also be he plays an individual sport and he is the number one draw.maybe at some point people stop thinking of pro athletes as heroes and realize they're fricked up just like everybody else
