You don't know that.

Of course not, but the likelihood of the official not giving credence to those players admitting it is small. He'd look like an idiot if this were to happen and he wouldn't reverse the call.

Granted, but there's no other sport where the participants regulate the sport, so I can't compare it to another sport.

I remember several years ago, prior to replay, seeing players give a let when they saw that the wrong call was made. I don't have the time or energy to search for this on youtube, but it's happened.

If you say so, I'll trust that you are an honest person and doing the right thing by not lying to me.

Furthermore, the point is that it's a horrible indictment of society that you feel the need to praise someone for following the rules

Praise is the wrong word. I wasn't praising Davis. I was giving him credit for doing the right thing. If you don't see the need for positive reinforcement after someone does the right thing, I can't help you.

very honorable and respectable

seems like golf is the only sport where players actually own up to the penalties they make.

I love golf and the players. great sport.

so the rule seperates his backswing and downswing??

I don't think so.

The "stroke" begins on the downswing.

You can of course come in contact with the loose impediment on the down swing at no penalty.

You cant remove an object from your path on the backswing to clear the way for the strike.

Any contact on the backswing with a loose impediment is two strokes.

I dont know of any low handicap or better golfer that would not call that penalty.

I also dont really understand how he makes that mistake.

Of course I just spent an afternoon playing the worst round of golf played in like 5 years, so what the hell do I know

You can not move any loose impedement in a hazard. That would have been a penelty.

There was a good question on the first page concerning hitting (movoing) a loose impedement on the downswing. As much golf as I play I should be more up on the rules but I am not ...

This has always bothered me about bunker shots. You can not ground the club in a bunker but you hit the sand first with your club (before the ball) on all bumker shots. I have always wondered why this is considered legal ..
