quote:You are wrong. The dictionary defines it as offensive, insulting, and disparaging. I've provided multiple links to multiple dictionaries' definitions. It is a dictionary-supported fact that the word is offensive, insulting, disparaging, and, therefore, racially insensitive.

The nickname is racially insensitive--that cannot be debated.
Um. It absolutely can be debated.
Big deal? I think not. But you can't deny the facts I've stated above. So let's move past that in this dialogue. No sense in fighting that.

He probably has a "black friend" who isn't insulted then he calls him a N!gg@ "as a joke." Therefore, that term is perfectly fine too.

so you are going to take the word of a dictionary (which is written by a person, not handed down from an all knowing deity) over the opinion of actual native americans?

Maybe a Native American writes free dictionary.com.

A dictionary-supported fact? What does that mean?

interesting assertion
not quite as interesting as the two native american high schools i posted about earlier that use "Redskins" as their mascot, though.
redskin and ni**er are not analogous in any way.

Dictionary definitions are not matters of opinion. It is a fact that the term Redskin is defined as offensive, insulting, and disparaging. You have no say in the matter.
You're.

but whoever wrote the dictionary, they do?
how about native americans? you dont think they have a say in the matter?

No. Even if 95% of all Native Americans find the word benign, it is on us as white people to educate them about feigning outrage and blindly leading a social cause.

I wish people like this dude would quit being offended for people who aren't offended at all. It's insane.
I'm very socially liberal but the political correctness is getting out of hand.

quote:I'm only citing the dictionary definition of the word. That the word is defined as offensive, disparaging, and insulting is a fact. I can show you that definition in the dictionary. Let's move on.

You and I agree that whether or not the name changes isn't inherently a big deal, right?
