or why not just go home or WVU or somewhere and wait for the call there? why does he need to be there a 2nd day?

Geno Smith is now no longer a big whiny baby. He's now a guy who caves to pressure when he shouldn't. #cantwin

There’s still a decent chance Geno will be a top-five pick in round two. If he doesn’t return to the draft on Friday night, interested teams could opt for one of the other quarterbacks instead
That's ridiculous.

I don't get the "I don't blame him" crowd. He's still going to be drafted and make a shite ton of money doing what he loves to do (and have an opportunity in a few years to make millions more), so why not suck it up and realize that plenty of other draftees have been in your situation before?

Sorry Geno, the billions of us around the world that also weren't selected in the 1st round last night share your pain

I don't get the "well you'll stick make a bunch of money so you shouldn't be upest" crowd. This actually isn't about money ONLY for these guys.

Make it persona, what do you do for a living? Not that you need to answer, but imagine at your job or school or whatever, they're going to pick a certain amount of people for whatever, grad school/some new huge project at your work that will help to vault your career/salary if you're chosen. You feel like you're absolutely one of the top candidates, no question in your mind. You don't get picked, how are YOU going to feel? And what if someone tells you don't worry, there are billions of us around the world that also weren't selected for that program/job so we all share your pain?

Suddenly, everything changes when it's you or me or anyone facing that sort of thing.

What else? Public image? Pride? Securing a roster spot? He's going to be drafted today; it's not like he was invited to NY and won't be selected at all.

Bad comparison. No one outside of my immediate situation gives a shite if I leave because things didn't work out. Geno is in the national spotlight and should suck it up (glad to see he decided to show up) if he cares about his public image (he obviously does if he decided to show up).

ETA: And I personally like Geno a lot. I don't think he's going to be a stud QB or anything, but I loved watching him sling it at WVU. High profile athletes are obviously held to higher standard than the general population, so you can't just walk away from situations without feeling a backlash. That's just one of a few unfortunate aspects among the myriad of awesome benefits that comes with being a professional athlete.

I'm not asking about how people outside of you would feel, how would YOU feel?

Oh, and then make you're not being picked for whatever program/job national attention so everyone in the world knows about it.

How would you feel? Probably a lot like Geno Smith felt last night, unless you're a robot lol.

Like shite, but I'm not saying he's not allowed to feel slighted or embarrassed. I could throw a tantrum after being passed over for a job, but I doubt people on Tigerdroppings, among other things, are going to comment or form opinions based off my irrelevant job situation.

It simply boils down to public image shel. When you are in the .001% of the country that has a shot to play professional sports, you are held to a higher standard. You can be pissed, embarrassed, upset, etc., but your agent, support system, whatever needs to articulate the importance of being a good sport, unless you don't care about your image.

If I was passed over like he was in the national spotlight, I'd take it like a man, then go home and bitch nonstop to my girlfriend and dog.

On Geno Smith: Was told last night he was fine coming back. Logistically: Needed to change flights, hotels for family to stay. Handled now

No one (myself included) can say definitively that they would take watching $15+ million leave their pockets, while simultaneously being embarrassed on live national television, without showing some emotion (anger, depression, etc). This is the definition of a "if you haven't been there" situation.
