This is so true.

I was always the smallest dude on the field based on my previous post. I was probably 6 feet tall and about 150 lbs soaken wet. But I was also the most fearless(probably could be better said as the dumbest lol) but I'd just go full on kamikaze for the legs and do my best to wrap up, worked well against much bigger dudes. You just never wanted them to square up with you, as the size difference, I'd have no chance.

On the flip side, you also learn real quick, again at least as the smaller dude, that if someone has you wrapped up, sometimes it's best to just go down. You're not getting any extra yards and staying up could sometimes let another dude come in and get a free shot on you.

I've always thought this. No helmets would make ball carriers and defenders both think twice about leading with their heads when they're about to make contact. To expand on that, with no helmets they'd also have to make shoulder pads out of the same material they make knee pads out of so no one gets their head bashed by that hard plastic coming with a full head of steam.

I said about 5-6 years ago in here in a thread about the Seahawks rugby tackling that turning the headgear and shoulder pads into a thicker Nike pro combat kind of material would get rid of the spearing and head hunting real quick mainly out of self preservation.

We used to do this four on four, no passing allowed, so offense was a modified wishbone formation (no halfback). It was a lot of fun.
