I'll be starting grad school at OU this Fall. I have family history at OU that dates back to the land rush so I'm excited to get out there and be a part of it.

I'm looking for some info on football traditions and such, mostly about UT and the Red River Shootout (or Rivalry I guess). I'm from Texas and am an A&M fan so I was raised on calling them t.u., and tea sips and saw em off and all that. How much of that transfers over to OU? What are some OU anti-UT sayings or traditions? I need to be in the know.

TIA.

They do a whole lot of the upside down hook em symbol from what I've seen. I've also seen the well known Longhorn sticker everyone has (I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about) upside down on some cars in Oklahoma before.

This is true but I don't care much for basketball.

I can get down with the upside down hook em. I have this sticker on my car now and I figure I can keep it on there in Norman with no problems:

And Shane, I actually just ran into an A&M fan here in Salt Lake City last week. I saw his A&M shirt so I said "boomer" and he said "gig'em but saw em off either way". I love that attitude and I hope to see more of it when I visit my parents in Houston for the holidays.

Yeah our fans have started with the upside down hook em more, some older A&M fans hate it but I don't really care. I've never had any problems with OU fans despite the stories some people tell. I've been to a couple games in Norman and always had a great time. OU fans are probably nice to A&M fans because they're used to kicking our arse

I'm glad we don't have to play A&M or LSU, I'd hate to have mixed feelings going into the game. The A&M hate for t.u. prepared me well for being a Sooner though.

And no love from OU fans? They must all be OT guys.

1. Blame Landry Jones

2. To be a real OU fan you could never have actually attended OU

3. Barry fricking Switzer

Go to the Red River Shootout this year in Dallas. I've never been but I've heard from both sides that it's an awesome time.

I've already looked into it and I don't qualify to get student tickets this year, they are only available to those who were students the year before. Luckily my program will span two seasons so I'll get it next year.

Hey man,
I'm a current OU undergrad and am from Texas as well. As a matter of fact, both my parents are Aggies, so I know where you are coming from. As far as football goes, OU, unlike A&M focuses more on themselves as opposed to UT. We hav a damn strong winning tradition and don't need to validate it by talking down about Texas. Stuff like "Saw em Off" and "t.u." are things that need to be left behind.
Welcome to the family. Hit me up in the fall of you wanna get a drink. Boomer!
