1996:6
1997:6
1998:6

I don't think the conspiracy is solely about the # of games in each series.

ETA - I'm not an NBA conspiracy supporter.

People are saying the "NBA wants this to go 7"

I'm just showing that there have been too many instances when the series hasn't even gone 6, or 5 for that matter.

And FYI, there is no data bias.

From 1980-1989...

2 sweeps (83,89)
2 7-game series (84,88)

Your numbers are wrong, cause 2009 was not a sweep

There is a new TV deal negotiation coming up in a few more years. If the NBA were going to ramp up the excitement artificially, these next several Finals would be the time to do it. I don't think that's the case, just that there's more incentive to "script" things now than say 2 years after the last deal was signed.

OP Fixed

The numbers I wrote were wrong for 2 series, but the average was correct (I did it again).

Doesn't change my point.

My bad.

How was the average number the exact same (to the thousandth) when you added a couple games to the overall equation?

When I added them on the calculator, I took the information from the website, not TD.com. Therefore, the calculation did not have the error.

NBA didn't need ratings in the 90s because it had less competition, but with more competition and options these days for entertainment like the internet and video games and such the NBA needs to do what it can to get the ratings it needs for $$$, rigging started around the early 2000s when Jordan was done and they needed juicy Finals matchups

Get your head out of the sand
