Honest question:

If Brandon Bass was on the Hornets, he'd be the ____ most talented big man on the roster. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)

Hornets 4/5 players
Hilton Armstrong
Ryan Bowen
Tyson Chandler
Melvin Ely
Sean Marks
David West

Chandler is 7'1 while BB is 6'7-6'8. Height is a major factor for the center spot. Not many short guys play center in the NBA.

And you couldn't honestly say that you would rather BB start in front of a healthy TC at center???

No Chandler is better and more valuable than Bass.

That was the question. Not whether Bass is a better 5 than Chandler. In my opionion, I think Bass is a better 4 than Chandler is a 5.

That is why Chandler is known as one of the better Centers in the league and Bass sits his barse on the bench and doesn't start.

No. But I think the combination of West and Bass in the lineup gives you more offensive options to compete with more athletic teams. Imagine CP3 being able to penetrate without TC and his defender in the lane, DW and BB would get a TON of open 10 footers. Yao is the ONLY true offensive center left and I don't see any more coming through college. TC rebounding is fantastic and defense is good, but without lobs from CP he is an offensive liability. Right now you need as much offense as you can get. Teams have been phasing out that "true center" for a few years now.

Who, except Yao, is an offensive threat as a center on the post? I also think BB is getting better still and TC is a known commodity.

Yao - 19.6 ppg - 54.8% shooting

Howard - 20.7 ppg - 57.4% shooting (more points on less attempts)

Duncan - 19.4 ppg - 50.4%

Gasol - 18.9 ppg - 56.5%

Shaq - 17.8 ppg - 60.8%

Yao is good, but how is he any better offensively than these players?

It was in reference to a "true center" who can score and distribute from the post. Howard is a true center and I acknowledged him, but do you think he is offensively gifted? Duncan and Gasol are really PF's and can be guarded (in theory) by PF's. Shaq (who I still love)made a deal with the devil this season.

My primary point was that Bass and West on the floor makes NOH a better offensive team then having TC on the floor.

I just don't understand "offensively gifted." I could care less how someone gets the points as long as they get them (efficiently). Also I should have added Okur to the list - 17.1 ppg on 48% shooting but also has a 3 point game.

I don't think you would get too much of an argument on this, but it would make the Hornets weaker on defense.
