Every year the playoff reveals that 4 is not only plenty, it’s often too many

And yet a majority of college football fans are mindlessly in favor of expansion because…reasons

At this point part of me wants it to happen just to see the horror on your faces when you realize what you’ve done and that you didn’t listen when you were warned.

Parity in CFB is not there. So there shouldn't be a playoff. BCS works fine.

Agreed. Usually only 2 or 3 really have a chance to win it all

Top 3. 2 and 3 battle it out. 1 gets a bye.

The long term idea behind expansion is that it spreads the talent around thus more parity

It's unfortunate, but we're getting 12. I just hope we get home games, and not all neutral sites.

At this point expansion is the only option, though.

Having teams in the playoffs is the only way to keep player and fan interest in the dying sport.

If only 2 teams make the playoffs the transfer portal and NIL will just create even more insane parity between a few schools and every other bowl will be even more meaningless

Except it doesn’t, there’s no evidence of that at all

No it isn’t. The long term goal is to increase money. No one who matters cares about parity unless it makes them more money based on the models.

Expand to 12 and watch players start opting out for first rounds games with 2-3 score spreads

It WILL happen

It’s the only thing they can do though. They can’t make schools care and invest in football, they can dangle a playoff spot though.

Why wouldn’t parity lead to more money? CFB is still highly regionalized.

Me and you don’t care about New York ratings and money but TV execs do

so exactly where we are now except fans are more excited because they have a potential for a NC for longer and more players will spread between the “playoff” schools instead of now all hoarding to 5 or 6

Bama, the playoffs, and immediate transfers, has already further accelerated the decline and regionalization of the sport.

Teams feel they don’t have a chance to compete, players only want to go to playoff schools, non playoff games are useless (even the previously prestigious bowls) with no fan or player interest, early signing day makes hiring coaches awkward because they have to leave current teams before the bowls

It all sucks now

We’re in the same spot we were when the BCS was in place, many just didn’t realize it.

Go back and look at the BCS years and make a 4 team playoff field from every season. Now find me the years where it wouldn’t have played out like it is now (most first round blowouts and only 1-2 worthy teams every year).

frick no BCS doesn't work fine. Had it been the BCS, Michigan would have gotten to the title game only to get slaughtered via 2012 Notre Dame. It's clear they don't belong. It's at a point where the SEC is putting a choke hold on college football because the rest of the field can't even come close.

The semis prove there aren’t that many great teams, but the fact that #4 has won 2 of 8 finals and #1 and #2 have only faced off in 3 of 8 finals prove that we have a crappy system of finding the top 2 without playoffs.
