I try making this point all the time. I guarantee the north is far more racist overall than the south in today's time. I promise you this. They are not only exclusive to racism against blacks.. they are racists of all sorts of ethnics. Especially the North East. They call everybody names.
The south has come a long.. long ways. If anything it's made us more united imho.

I absolutely that statement as well.

I'd say from experience it's about equal although the N word is used a helluva a lot more in the south.
Many people up north won't use the word and pretend they are hurt by hearing it while deep down inside they agree but won't admit it.
