One hundred percent yes. Pitchf/x has got to the point it is feasible. At the very least, I'd like to see an electronic appeal process like tennis.

Joe West and Angel Hernandez are both human answers to this question. Each one of those umps has obvious biases showcased in interviews and on the field.

Why? In just about any sport you have to adjust for how the game is officiated. It's part of sports.

I agree in terms of subjective calls. But, balls and strikes should be objective. There is a strike zone, plain and simple. Hit it, it's a strike. Miss it, it's a ball.

Absolutely agree. First time I've agreed with Rex in a while, but he's right on this.

We took a coworker in town from India to a game before and we were having to explain the rules to him. You don't realize how bizarre a lot of it is until you think about and verbalize stuff like foul balls are strikes but not strikeouts unless someone catches it (but catchers can catch foul tips on strike 2 and you're out, but not out before then). Things like tags and forceouts that make no sense. Rules about the pitching rubber, tagging up, infield fly rules, etc. Hitting itself involves a lot of luck.

I love baseball but it's a ridiculous sport. Part of the culture/drama/fun involves the umpire. Trying to "improve" it with technology removing the human element seems to miss the point.

Edit: why was this thread anchored? Makes no sense.

If we can eliminate umps/officials with technology in modern sports then we definitely should do it. Nobody shows up to see the official. They are only part of the game bc they were necessary at the time. If they can be replaced with a truly unbiased robot then they should be.
