The true crime is Miguel Tejada getting $6.5 million a year.

Jeter is getting $17 million and you have a problem with Renteria getting 6% of that? I have told people before, if Renteria had spent his entire career with the Yankees (and had a pretty face), he would be where Jeter is now. If Jeter had played for six different teams not including the Yankees, he would have no gold gloves, only a couple of all-star appearances, and certainly wouldn't be headed for Cooperstown. That is the difference between $1M and $17 for their late-career contracts.

Jeter has a way better bat then renteria and more pop. He was also a better base stealer.

I dont care what uniform he would be wearing, a shortstop with 3,000 hits would be headed to Copperstown.

Does Copperstown have an independent team or something that brings out 3000 hit guys for autograph appearances?

No player in the last 40 years of baseball has been better protected in lineups over the course of his career than Jeter. My point is that if Renteria had Bernie Williams, Giambi (w/ roids), A-Rod, Abreu, and Teixiera batting behind him, he would have put up the same power numbers as Jeter.

I fully expect that he will make it to Cooperstown. I also think that the baseball media rewards a consistent 15 year career (Jeter) over 5-6 amazing years (Nomar), so he does meet their criteria. If I had a vote, I would vote for more deserving players like Lee Smith and Dale Murphy first and then think about it.
