This thread deserves a bump but would like to point out this guys take on Iman Shumpert...the 2nd most consistent Knick player in the playoffs behind Felton.

quote:

No he doesn't... Hes slower and more hesitant (obviously because hes coming off the ACL injury) this year. Plus, hes limited offensively. Occasionally takes drives at the rim, but hes primarily a spot up 3 point shooter.

Can anyone .gif that follow up dunk from last night?

That one dunk doesn't change my opinion at all... His offensive game is EXACTLY what I posted in this thread...

He has been all over the floor both offensively and especially defensively...you couldn't have been more wrong in your "assessment".

Defensively, hes performed better in the postseason than in the regular season.

Offensively, he hasn't surprised me at all... He is a primary spot up 3 point shooter who will occasionally take drives to the basket.

Seriously though if the Heat won it would be the easiest path of any championship ever

Do you know the definition of spot up shooter?

I think the bigger reason is because they won't get off enough 3pters for it to matter if they do, unless they shoot like 50% for the series. Last year they averaged roughly 23 threes a game, but vs. MIA in playoffs they only shot 18. MIA ramps up their close outs in the post season and turns some of those 3s into long 2s.

I know he's no superstar but the way they simply did not allow Novak to just get shots off was impressive.

I probably watch the Knicks more than you do if you're asking me this.

he drives more than he shoots 3s. you're wrong. novak is a spot up shooter. iman is not.

Jesus Christ....

...and I've been a Knicks fan since the early 90's so I highly doubt it.

Also you deflected the question so it leads me to believe you don't know what a spot up shooter is, or that you think you're wrong and don't want to admit it. Steve Novak is a spot up shooter, Shumpert is not.

Yes.

Shumpert last year was a driver. This year, because of the ACL injury, plus the way that Woodson cluelessly runs Melo iso's, Shump primarily stays out on the 3 point line.

More than half of Shumperts total points in the playoffs have come inside the 3pt line....

Spot up 3pt shooters get ALMOST ALL of their points from outside...so please explain your logic with facts and stop spewing bullshite from your mouth you have no clue about.

he definitely drives less, but hes still not a spot up shooter.

Shumpert has 26 3-point attempts in the playoffs. He has 66 FG attempts total in the playoffs.

Thats about 40% of his FG attempts being 3's. I've watched all of the Knicks playoff games. He primarily SITS out on the 3 point line. His drives come when Melo/Smith/Felton/Prigioni have nowhere to go with the ball.

Very rarely in these playoffs has he just gone 1-on-1 and drove to the rim.

My analysis on his play is what my EYES see. His role on the court most closely resembles that of a spot up 3 point shooter.

It's evidence that regular season success is not a good predictor of post season success. Did you not read the rest of the post when I said, "Regular season success isn't a good indicator for post season success"?

He isn't a slasher and he isn't a spot up 3pt shooter either. He's an athletic jump shooter that CAN BE a slasher and CAN BE a spot up shooter.

He's been taking 1 on 1 jumpers inside the 3pt line the entire post season along with more than just the one put-back from last night.

Good thing the world doesn't watch basketball thru YOUR EYES, because they don't even know what they are looking at.

Whatever dude. I've clearly responded to every insult you've thrown at me with facts and with evidence to back me up.

All you're doing is saying I don't have a fricking clue what I'm talking about.

he took george off the dribble multiple times last night, werent you watching?

from an espn article

In 29 minutes, he finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal and no turnovers. In the first half, he took one of the best wing defenders in the NBA, Paul George, to school. Shumpert had a behind-the-back move on him, went in for a layup, and then hit a jump shot in his face.
