Dude, no one cares that much about track
If you took a poll in Eugene, wayyyy more people will know who LaMichael James, LeGarrette Blount, and Marcus Mariota are than Ashton Eaton

You obviously haven't spent much time in Eugene, but I've been there many times, and I've spoken to more than a few locals during my visits. I've seen what's on the walls of the Wild Duck, and I've eaten at Tracktown Pizza, but I don't recall seeing Footballtown Pizza. Eugene's nickname is Track Town, not Football Town.
Football signing day (the first Wednesday in February) coincides with track signing day. On the day after signing day in 2009, Jordan Hasay's signing dominated the front page of the Register Guard's sport section with a big color picture of her, while there was minor mention of the football signees at the bottom of the page. Admittedly, that surprised really me, but I don't know of another big-time college football town, in which a minor sport could push football off the front page of the sports section.

i don't know how old you are but the specifics were not only released but bowden crowed about them. fsu made out like a bandit in the acc and the likes of wake forest and duke were happy to let y'all have most of their revenues.
Young enough that I had to google everything

Curious as to what "deal" was offered? Maybe Arky/USCe and A&M/Mizzou fans could weigh-in but I thought you join the conference, play the schedules, etc like every other team.
I was an undergrad at the time, but the SEC was going with 2 permanent opponents. Fla. State was to be placed in the East, but wanted to ensure that LSU, Alabama, Auburn would not be one of their interdivision permanent opponents.
