Mcconnor wasn't some schlep off the street, he's an elite fighting athlete and boxing, especially this weight class and a fighter like mayweather doesn't lend itself to a quick knockout. Additionally, the only chance mcconnor had was to land a big blow early so Floyd, being the master strategist he is, carefully avoided this peril, and let the Irish gorilla gas himself. Once gassed the fight ended. Only scripted in the sense Floyd executed his strategy with precision. Now gtfo.
