Quick question:
Like I said I'm new to this and it intrigues me enough to want to start following it a bit. But answer me this.
I placed a WPS on both 3 & 17, and it shows how much I'm risking to but how much will I win? (I put a buck on each WPS, so it totaled up 3.00 each bet.)

If it's only a dollar bet you'll win half the amount posted on the board. If your horse wins, you get half of the win, place show added up, if it places you'll get half of the place and show payout, and if it shows you just get half the show payout.
And the race starts at 5:24 Central time.

you sure?
i thought you get whatever odds the horse goes off on. Betting to win, place and show (three separate bets) $1 across the board on Number 3 or 17 is the same as $1 to win, $1 to place, and $1 to show on each horse.

This is what I was thinking could kickstart a NASCAR type horse racing tour. Zenyatta's a chick right? Get her knocked up by Big Brown or Barbaro right now, and 3 years from now we can start touring those 2 around and hyping the hybrids, then keep breeding the 2 mares with whoever of the 3 they haven't bred with yet. And does Cigar still have some sperm anywhere? You could get 8 super celebrity horses right there.
i just don't see it

I've got no feel for this race. I kinda hate the whole field, and I don't understand why DialedIn was at 4-1.
I like 1 & 15 boxed over 2, 6, 9, and 13. Need to cut a horse, probably. I like ArchArchArch, so that's my not very confident pick to win.
ETA. Ed. Cut two. Make it 1, 15, 2, and 19 in one exacta box. I'm more of a believer in Arch and Midnight Interlude. Nehro I'm scared to leave out. I have a hunch about Brilliant Speed.

Dialed In the favorite because of Uncle Mo's problems, Arch getting the rail and his impressive win in Florida. they got the favorite right. at least he isn't 4/5 or something retarded.
drop the 2 6 or 9. i would drop all three, but that's just me

Derby is a longshot's race. Best horse doesn't win.
Posted on 5/7/11 at 4:46 pm to Rohan2Reed
like the 19 for w/p
got some horses left to hit the daily double that would be nice
been a rough day betting at churchill, doubt i make it back on the derby. too many damn horses

favorites have been doing well the last 10 years. but obviously in a 19-horse field anything can happen. i would like the 2 horse if the track was muddy but it's not. hurts my chances with Soldat as well.
Comma won't be able to get the distance. he's winless in three tries this year and losing ground in the stretch in each attempt.
Derby Kitten has a fighter's chance with his post position. i worry about his speed though. he'd also do better on a sloppy track.

Here's my problem with Dialed In. He's never posted a 100 Beyer, sort of my baseline for a Derby contender. He's only raced twice this year, only one a graded stakes, and lost the non-graded, and didn't win THAT impressively in the Florida. At 15-1, sure. He'd be a nice value play of a horse maybe ready to breakout. But a favorite?
Don't like it. Terrible value.

pretty sure the only horse that has in this field is Soldat. Dialed posted a 97. that's respectable.

hey don't get me wrong, i'm not using him on top in most of my exotics. i don't see who else in this field should have gotten the closest ML odds though.
