Hinch referred to Correa's thumb injury as a contusion so that's great. The decision not to start Correa was basically made the moment he left the game last night, I think.

At least Correa is available, but I think you see the other three guys pinch hit before he does.

Good quotes by hunch. Said Correa wanted to play. But he was going to give him a day off before the break anyway so he's doing it tonight.

Teams like the Cubs, Astros and Yankees are scouting Marcus Stroman right now in anticipation of him being available.

Buster Olney sez...

quote:

"The Cubs, the Astros, the Yankees all fit this category, who when they add a starting pitcher before the trade deadline, they want to not trade for rentals, someone who’s a free agent at the end of the year, but they’d rather focus on a controllable starter, someone that they can control beyond this year," he said. "And Marcus is not going to be eligible for free agency until after 2020 and so they’re definitely taking a look at him."

Holy run on sentence Buster. I think I would prefer Sonny.

I like Sonny. Y'all know that.

But I also like Stroman. He's a ground ball pitcher who would thrive with our shifts. Big game pitcher who is basically a young 3 to 4 WAR player under control for 3 more seasons after this one.

I like Stroman, too. Price would be astronomical.

Ok. How about Fisher, Musgrove, F. Perez and J.D. Davis?

So you're telling me I can keep Tucker, Whitley, Martes, and we're about to sign Bukauskas?

I'm telling you I think that gets you pretty close to Stroman. Hell, throw in AJ Reed (Smoak is getting dealt as a rental) as a flier to seal the deal.

Are you suggesting that would get Stroman? No way

Yeah even for a team like the Blue Jays, who may be sellers at the deadline now that they're struggling, I don't see them trading Stroman. Even if they did want to, I'm sure it would take a lot to trade for him. Still, I do want him if he's available.

Stroman is not an ace. He is a No. 2 or No 3 starter (I'd say more of a 2 but semantics) who you'd be giving two Top 100 prospects for plus nice pieces including former Jays high pick Musgrove. The other parts in the deal are flexible based on Toronto's preferences.

Point is, I think you can protect the big three (Martes, Tucker and Whitley) while still getting a Stroman or Gray type.

Now that's not true about Cole or deGrom. And I personally don't want Quintana.
