Well, Boeheim was not at the top of his game when he was basically forced into retirement. But you also have to consider that his teams went to the Final Four in 2013 and 2016 and the Sweet 16 in 2018 and 2021. Not exactly a long run of mediocrity. Money factors pretty heavily into the portal. Like Roy Williams, Jay Wright and Mike Krzyzewski, I don't think Jim was made for this era of college sports. Syracuse went with Red Autry over Gerry as Jim's successor and he proved to be a pretty lousy head coach. McNamara is built different, and I think he'll be fine.
