Immediate antiinflammatory effects.......this is also benefited by the ability to inject it directly to the site. So not only does it eliminate the 1st pass effect but the drug goes directly where you want it to work. No inflammation means far less pain and weakness.

Are there special advantages in using cortisone injections for joint inflammation (arthritis)?
Cortisone injections into a joint can be beneficial in rapidly reducing joint pain while restoring function to a body part immobilized by inflammation, such as an arthritic knee or elbow. This might be particularly important in certain circumstances, such as the gainful employment of a family bread-winner or someone who lives alone. Despite potential and infrequently reported adverse reactions as described above, it is generally felt that low, intermittent doses of corticosteroids pose little risk of significant side effects.

Cortisone injections into a joint also can decrease the inflammation in diseased joints throughout the body when the corticosteroids are absorbed from the joint into the circulation.

Are there special side effects that can occur with cortisone joint injections?

Cortisone injections into a joint may have side effects in addition to those described above. Unique side effects of joint injections involve injury to the joint tissues, particularly with repeated injections. These injuries include thinning of the joint cartilage, weakening of the ligaments of the joint, increased inflammation in the joint (arthritis) due to a reaction to a corticosteroid that has crystallized, and introduction of infection into the joint.

How are cortisone injections of soft tissues given?

The medical professional administering the injection draws up the corticosteroid into a syringe. A local anesthetic (such as lidocaine) may simultaneously be drawn into the syringe. Next, the area to be injected is selected. Typically, the skin over the area to be injected is sterilized with a liquid solution, either alcohol or Betadine.

Sometimes, the area is topically anesthetized by rapid cooling using a spray such as ethyl chloride. The needle of the syringe then is inserted into the tissue to be injected and the solution is ejected from the syringe into the area of inflammation. The needle then is withdrawn, and a sterile bandage is applied to the injection site.

I dont know whether to take you seriously any more or not.

McCoy had the OPPOSITE of pain, he had numbness. So why are you still speculating and posting about pain?

1. I don't "think" you are retarded. I'm 100% sure of it.
2. You seem to have a problem realizing the difference between numbness and pain.

So you are saying that taking pain killers and an anti-inflammatory would have cured his numbness?

Seriously?

Why is that so hard to believe?

Yes seriously you can inject nerves.......just like veins.........no numbness........NOT good to do it fricking 4 times in a row but for 3.5 hours no biggie........

Nerve blocks you inject local anesthetics to block the pathway.........it's very similar and relatively harmless if the nerve is only pinched.

It's about not being able to control the direction you are throwing the ball. Man, some people........

If you have no FEELING, you can't throw accurately. You have no muscle-memory. If he was a rb, sure, carry the ball in your other hand. This is a QB, with a dead throwing arm. You just can't throw like that.

A healthy kid who takes care of himself could not function on 2 Oxycodones he probably has never taken much more than an advil. Not like he is Brett Favre in the 90's.

A cortisone shot could have helped but not made him a better option than the back up QB was. His throwing would still be VERY limited. No touch. Probably would have fumbled a few times too. And dropped at least one snap if you can't feel your hand.

How horrible is their 3rd string guy? The second stringer I believe had a injury that cortisone probably helped. He took a shot like McCoy just not as bad. His throws looked like shite after that hit. He was constantly shown on the sidelines loosening up and throwing warm up passes. He was wincing and his throwing motion was elongated. How about Mack Brown not running a kid out there hurt.? Guy looked much better after halftime but not right. Maybe he had a shot and a couple Vicodin?
