It’s not about closer games. It’s about going from 5-6 fan bases interested in the National picture to about 15 fan bases.

I don't see how this fixes anything at all. How long are these fanbases going to stay interested after getting blasted every year?

Why award 3 loss teams this opportunity with the current top loaded teams?

A "healthier" college football landscape would probably mean that you see more 1 or even 2 loss teams in the current playoffs structure because talent is more evenly spread. Not just randomly adding mediocre teams up against the current juggernauts.

Crappy games between mostly the same teams:

Alabama/Alabama/Alabama/Alabama/Alabama/Alabama (6/7 series; 11/21 games)
Clemson/Clemson/Clemson/Clemson/Clemson/Clemson (6/7; 10/21)
Ohio State/Ohio State/Ohio State/Ohio State (4/7; 6/21)
Oklahoma/Oklahoma/Oklahoma/Oklahoma (4/7; 4/21)
Notre Dame/Notre Dame (2/7, 2/21)
Florida St (1/7; 1/21)
Georgia (1/7; 2/21)
LSU (1/7; 2/21)
Michigan St (1/7; 1/21)
Oregon (1/7; 2/21)
Washington (1/7; 1/21)

There has been ONE game that didn't include Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, or Oklahoma.

Blow it all up and reset the landscape to 1985 - conferences, bowls, etc. Add a #1 vs #2 championship game after the bowls.

Expansion just to allow Coastal Carolina or someone a spot in the playoffs, when they clearly don’t belong, will ultimately do more harm than good.

In theory it could convince more players that going to Coastal Carolina would still allow them a chance to compete in the playoffs.

The issue now is it’s self fulfilling...best players want to go to playoffs, and even if they like other schools they know the best chance at playoffs is to pick from the handful of those who currently make it

Clemson - 6 (2)
Ohio State - 4 (1)
Oklahoma - 4
Notre Dame - 2
LSU - 1 (1)
Georgia - 1
Washington - 1
Michigan State - 1
Florida State - 1
Oregon - 1

How do those teams align with recruiting rankings?

Looking at it through that lens Georgia has really underperformed, *LSU has underperformed, and ND has over performed

*Being in the same division as Bama isn’t helping.

it should have always been more than 4 teams.

A large amount of bowls are usually blowouts.

Having games over up to month after everyone played their last game always makes it tough for both teams to come in clicking on all cylinders
