Taking into account all three games played, when has the College Football Playoff put out a really good product? Sure, we get a good game here and there, but if you look at each Playoff and Championship game, it has largely been a dude.

Below, in bold, denotes 20+ point wins.

2014-2015
Oregon - 59 FSU - 20
Ohio State - 42 Alabama - 35
Ohio State - 42 Oregon - 20 (Championship)

2015-2016
Clemson - 37 Oklahoma - 17
Alabama - 38 Michigan State - 0

Alabama - 45 Clemson - 40 (Championship)

2016-2017
Alabama - 24 Washington - 7
Clemson - 31 Ohio State - 0
Clemson - 35 Alabama - 31 (Championship)

2017-2018
Georgia - 54 Oklahoma - 48
Alabama - 24 Clemson - 6
Alabama - 26 Georgia - 23 (Championship)

2018-2019
Alabama - 45 Oklahoma - 34
Clemson - 30 Notre Dame - 3
Clemson - 44 Alabama - 16 (Championship)

2019-2020
LSU - 63 Oklahoma - 28
Clemson - 29 Ohio State - 23
LSU - 42 Clemson - 25 (Championship)

2020-2021
Alabama - 31 Notre Dame - 14
Ohio State - 49 Clemson - 28
Alabama - 52 Ohio State - 28 (Championship)

The years we didn't have a 20+ margin of victory, we were left with 24-7 and 24-6 nailbiters.

The College Football Playoffs, by and large, suck and are a giant bore.

And how many years did people complain about the BCS and yearned of a college football playoff system?

17, not 20+. Don't try to rob that moral victory from me.

That pick 6 before half still haunts me.

I agree. Unless your favorite team wins it isn't very good. I'd rather go back to the more traditional system or the BCS system where you just match up the top two teams. Play 12 regular season games a conference championship game and one final bowl game.

The principal argument was that there were years under the BCS when the best team didn’t get a shot at the title. The playoff has proven those bcs critics right, as the 3 and 4 seeds have won games and titles.

However, the games have tended to be one-sided for the most part.

Took a TD in the last 1 minute and a 2nd half of bama just running clock to have this not make your list, too. Playoff games this year were all complete blow outs.

It's an awful product. More championships are blowouts than not.

The problem with college football today is that all of the best players are going to a select few schools. You need to expand the playoffs just for the health of the sport, giving these teams the illusion that they have a chance, but nothing will change until some of these coaches start retiring.

Saban will retire in ~8 years and college football will return to an awesome experience

The easiest fix is to expand to 8 teams, not because I think the 5-8 seeds will ever win a title, but it will keep many more fan bases interested in the National picture through thanksgiving and championship weekend.

Also, this will allow teams to have a set concrete metric on how to make the playoffs: WIN YOUR CONFERENCE.

The committee still has 2 spots to select the blue bloods who shite the bed in the regular season, but the committee has them in their agenda for money.

I just think you'll see that many more 20+ games.

It’s not about closer games. It’s about going from 5-6 fan bases interested in the National picture to about 15 fan bases.

If you look at college football historically the format has largely sucked for decades. The games (regular season at least) can be exciting but the structure of the sport sucks

I heard someone say that at the beginning of the season, you eliminate 95% of the teams in college football from the playoff discussion. It's an invitational at this point.

Expansion gives others motivation. Whether they belong or not. Clemson's rise to top 3 coincides with the playoffs becoming a thing.

Here's a breakdown of who has gone to the playoffs:
Alabama - 6 (3)
Clemson - 6 (2)
Ohio State - 4 (1)
Oklahoma - 4
Notre Dame - 2
LSU - 1 (1)
Georgia - 1
Washington - 1
Michigan State - 1
Florida State - 1
Oregon - 1

That's 28 berths divided up between 11 different teams. And only 5 have been more than once.

The playoffs may as well be a members only country club.

How do those teams align with recruiting rankings? I’d imagine they’d be pretty close. The best teams get the best players

The system isn’t broken. The best teams are the ones that are consistently making the top four. Expansion just to allow Coastal Carolina or someone a spot in the playoffs, when they clearly don’t belong, will ultimately do more harm than good. And expanding to 8 or whatever teams isn’t going to suddenly inspire Kentucky or UCLA to go undefeated (and right now, if either of those two goes undefeated, guess what, they’d probably make the playoff).

If you want Bama or Clemson or OSU to quit making the playoffs every year, then beat them in the regular season.

It doesn't help that parity is extremely low (even by college football standards) right now and a handful of teams are dominating in recruiting while the rest of the powers are just trying to get their shite together with coaching stability.

The CFP probably would have more interesting in the late 2000s and early 2010s when you had so many teams competing for title and parity was at an all time high.
