Top 10 highest paid for a 13-12 record at CU

The year before he got to CU they were 1-11 w/their only win coming in OT against a 4-8 Cal. 10 of those losses were by double digits including a 31 point smack down by Air Force. They weren't even competitive by the end of Karl Dorrell's time in Boulder.

Last year they won 9 games for just the second time since 2002 and every single home game since he as been there has been a sellout.

I'm not sure why y'all continue to act like he hasn't completely turned that program around in a very short time.

I don’t think I denied that. I don’t think that’s worth being a top 10 paid coach in all of cfb though

But why not? The amount of publicity he has generated for the school will easily pay for that contract. Again, every single home game is sold out now. They've been turned into must see TV. They have gone from being relegated to being the weekly Pac 12 Net night game to national broadcasts on every single OTA network. It's not that BS "sold out" through donated tickets to charity either. They are filling up their stadium like it's their hey day in the 90s again. Even if he only stays one more season it's been a wild success.

Bc he’s 13-12 as a D1 coach

He has no business being in a list that includes

Kirby Smart
Ryan Day
Dabo Swinney
Dan Lanning
Steve Sarkisian
Lincoln Riley
Kalen DeBoer
Bill Belichick
Brian Kelly

There is just no way Deion Sanders has sustained success at Colorado. Also don't think the market is there for him for this kind of money. No one is coming to steal him for these numbers. Contract is insane.

I hate watched them like crazy, Prime has earned his money. People tuning in to see them lose still makes them money.

They didn't have a single victory over ranked opponent last year and got blown out by crappy Nebraska and Kansas teams. In fact the only ranked team he has beaten in 2 years is TCU in 2023, who turned out to be terrible themselves that season and had a losing record.

I'm not saying he isn't better than the last couple of coaches, but he is NOT worth 10+m a year.

Lot of those coaches aren’t doing much of anything at their schools, and performing worse compared to expectations than Sanders has

I don’t know what kind of straw man you’re trying to build there but you can try to explain yourself

Just looking at the record does not tell the whole story at all. Every single one of those coaches would have a similar record in the first two years at Colorado. You are really hand waving away just how down in the dumps they were when he got there.

Again, the year before he got to CU they lost 11 games by an average of 32 points. 10 of the losses were by 23 or more points. They only had a single 1 score game and even that was still an 8 point game. (25, 31, 42, 28, 23, 33, 8, 39, 38, 47, 42)

In year one they went from 1 win to 4, the 8 losses went down to an average of 14.5 per game, and 5 of the losses were 1 score games. (36, 7, 3, 12, 7, 3, 42, 6)

It should also be taken into consideration that CU lost a HC fairly recently to the kind of contract you say they should refuse to pay Deion. Mel Tucker was there for all of a year and went just 5-7 but that was enough for Michigan State to offer him 10 years 95m to steal him away in the dead of night.

If CU is a 8ish win team this year Sanders is verly likely going to get big offers from other schools and possibly pro teams. They may as well try and get our ahead of everything and at least set the bar for what anyone will have to do to take him away.

At least get your facts straight. He left CU for a $5.5M/year deal at MSU.

He was given a 9.5M/year deal from MSU after he started 8-0 in his 2nd year, finished 11-2. So yeah, CU probably is on the same path as MSU but unfortunately I don’t see Coach Prime being accused of sexual harassment to save them from the massive contract

They’ll get a pass this year because they lose 2 of their best players on offense but next year and the following years Deion is gonna have to earn that pay or they’ll be turning him off like everyone did after week 4 of the 2023 season

Ok got that contract wrong but the point stands that they know other schools will come calling and have done the math that tells them he is worth $10m+ a year to them right now.

Its also only a 5 year deal and it's not fully guarenteed so they wouldn't really need to hope he fricks up like Tucker if things collapse.

His buyout is only crazy high the first two years

2025: $12 million
2026: $10 million
2027: $6 million
2028: $4 million
2029: $3 million

Not sure what all they have brought in to try and replace Hunter offensively and defensively but they did at least get Kaidon Salter to be their QB this year. While it's potentially worrisome that from afar the guy seemed to not care whenever Liberty lost games he does have a ton of talent and could potentially put up some pretty big numbers for the Buffs.
