Interesting that Ovi8 is basically a -2 (meaning for every 60 minutes of ice time, the opposing team gets 2 more scoring chances than the Capitals do when he's on the ice
Woah, woah, woah! That's not what Corsi means AT ALL. Corsi measures all shots, even those that miss the net or are blocked. It is not measuring "scoring chances" in any real sesne. It is attempted to measure POSSESSION. The theory is that good things happen the longer a team possesses the puck, and the best way to measure possession is by shots attempted (as they can only happen when you possess the puck in the opponent's zone).
when looking at a player, CorsiRel is more valuable, as it measures how the team does compared to when a player is on and off the ice. It also balances things out for team's who play a less possession oriented game (teams that rely heavily on the counterattack or concede lots of perimeter shots). Anyway, Ovie is 2.1 CorsiRel, showing that the team is two shots better every 60 minutes he's on the ice. It shows he drives possession relative to his team (though nothing like the criminally underrated Perrault, who is 11.7).

Sounds like a scoring chance in the sense a shot was taken, but you're right - not a scoring chance in the statistical definition....
We'll see tonight baby! So excited for this matchup
