I didn’t ask what the rule was
You can’t convince me they don’t call defenseless shite when a player has forward momentum
ETA: And c’mon, he speared 6 in the neck/head. That is called fairly often.

I’m saying that Prentice could only be defenseless in that situation if his forward progress had stopped.
Only other way targeting can be called there while still moving forward is leading with the helmet.
There are two types of targeting penalties- one with defenseless players getting hit in head or neck area, and one with any player leading with the helmet tk the head or neck of an opponent.

I think that hit is upheld as targeting more often than not.
I guess that’s where I’m at. I know the rules. I’m not mad they reversed it.
But I do think it was lame they did.

He hit him with his shoulder.

I don’t disagree. Doesn’t make it right though.
They called it correctly in this case.

He hit him with his shoulder.
I thought spearing someone was running up and driving your shoulder through someone’s upper body(in this case their ear/neck).

Spearing, at least it used to be was hitting a player on the ground with the crown of your helmet.

Block in the back not helping Auburns field position.

To me it’s always been elements of speed, hitting the upper body, and kinda finishing through the tackle and the hit looking violent.
The launching and using your shoulder bc it’s way more affective in the hit has been my idea of a spear.
It’s probably different for different folks.

Iowa is the biggest tease in CFB... They would do everyone a favor if they just got blown out in the 1st quarter.

That was not targeting.

Spearing as a rule was leading and making contact with your helmet. Prior to 2005, it required intent to be called. They dropped intent in 2005 and then the targeting rules were created that basically addressed spearing too.
